Subject: James Steel/e in Revolutionary War - I am searching for information about the military service in the Revolutonary War by James Steel/e. According to a family history pamphlet printed on 20 June 1914, James Steel was born at Castle Blaney near Carrick Macross, County Monaghan, Province of Ultser Irelans c 1741 of Scotch ancestors who had settled in Ireland. He came to America in 1771 or 1772 stopping first in Cumberland County, now Franklin County. He purcased 400 acres from the Penn family in Mt. Pleasant twp, Westmoreland County. His first wife was Elizabeth MacMasters, a sister of James MacMasters who lived in Hecla, PA. They had two children, Jane and Joseph. After Elizabeth's death c. 1784 he married Elizabeth Donaldson (a cousin?) they had three children, Elizabeth, James, and John.

According to this pamphlet James Sr. was a member of the Mt. Pleasant Associators. He also served with the Revoultionary army for three years in the Jerseys. I'm trying to find out with what regiment he served. He died 10 September 1823 and is buried in the Middle Presbyterian grave yard, Mt. Pleasant twp., Westmoreland County.

I am related to James Steel/e Sr.in the following way:

I would be most appreciative for any help.
