Subject: Steeles of Frederick and Warren Cos., VA - Hi Tom et al. I am looking for further info on a Daniel Steel family listed in the Frederick Co. Va. census for 1850. Daniel and his wife Matilda (maiden name unknown) had several children. One daughter, Margaret Ann Steel, married my ancestor Simon P. Smith. She was his second wife. They had four children. Daniel Steel/Steele's son Daniel Edgar Steele (Margaret Ann's brother) married Delphia Ann Sargent, parents unknown. They lived in Warren Co. Va., I believe, and had three sons, one of whom was Russell Lee Steele, who married Annie Laura Smith of Warren Co. abt. 1907. Russell and Annie Laura lived in Front Royal for many years and eventually died in Huntsville, AL in the late 1960s and early 1970s. I have these folks in my database at http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Flats/8458/ and would love to hear from anyone who knows more about this line of Steeles. I would especially like to know what happened to Margaret Ann Steel Smith and her children etc. I also am interested in learning who her grandparents were.

Subject: Scott STEELb1810 PA d1884 Monroe Co., IA - Scott STEELb1810 PA d1884 Monroe Co., IA married Isabella Goble b1806PA d1868 Monroe Co., IA in PA or Cinncinati, OH ca 1827. They owned original land in Shelby Co., IN, and located there by 1839. They moved to Burlington, IA in 1843 and finally, to Bridgeport, Monroe Co., IA.

Their Children: Mary A. b1828 IN married Alford W. Wilson b1821 TN in 1844 Mahaska Co., IA, Isaac b1830 PA, Margaret L. b1832 OH married (1) James Underwood (2) Geo. H. L. Scott and Isabella (Goble) STEEL appear to be living with Isaac GOBLE b1780-1790 in the 1830 Rush Co., IN census. James STEEL b1770-1780 is listed one line above Isaac GOBLE. In 1849 there is a newspaper article stating that "Isaac GOBLE has gone to Calif.". I do not know if this is a son or Isaac GOBLE b1780-1790. In 1850 census a Isaac Goble age 82 bNJ is living with James GOBLE age 30 bOH.

Subject: Steele family history - My name is John Steele Ferguson and I am currently looking to find any information about my great, great, great? grandfather, Alfred Bowden Steele. All I know is that he was born in WV in the early 1840's or late 1830's. I have no knowledge of what county or town he may have born in. I have been told by my mother that there is a family cemetary somewhere is SW WV for our branch of the family. I do have a small lisiting to his children with birthdates that I would be willing to share as soon as I receive it from my brother. I do know that my ancestor did fight in the civil war along with 3 of his brothers. My grandfather was Albertrum Steele and he had a borther by the name os Asa. If you can provide any information (if you have any!) about this man or any other of the Steeles I have listed I would be most appreciative.

Subject: Rutha Steele and Lewis Evermont Staten - Tom, I was browsing the Steele roundtable resources. I noted the extensive listing for Ralph and Levisa (Ferrell) Steele. My grandmother, Rutha, was the daughter of their son, John. Rutha was born ~March 27, 1864. She married Lewis Evermont Staten, son U. McCoy and Nancy Staten -- this information can be found on Rutha's and Lewis Evermont's marriage record. Rutha died on April 24, 1954. Rutha and Lewis Evermont had nine children:

1. Nora b. 11/2/1888. She married Sidney Sipple on 12/3/1913. She died on 11/3/1967.
2. Roland T. Staten b. 3/1/1893. He was married twice: Bertha maiden name unknown at present, and m2 was to Bessie Ferrell.
3. Bryan Staten b. 12/28/1897. He married Holly Cisco on 2/27/1917.
4. Ralph Staten b. 12/29/1908.
5. Lona who married Elias Simpkins on 2/25/1913. She died on 12/25/1971.
6. Lottie b. 3/29/1896. She married Wayne Simpkins on 1/10/1917.
7. Georgia b. 1/15/1903 - she married Rush Cisco on 5/16/1925.
8. E.M. "Marshall" Staten b. 1/20/1895. He married Allie Chafin on 3/14/1916.
9. Nancy b. 12/1899. She married Dee Simpkins on 3/27/1917.

This is still a work in process but thought to share what little information that I have. Does the repository want pictures? I have a copy of one that contains Rutha and Lewis Evermont.

Subject: May Steele in Texas - Does anyone have a Nina May Steele in their tree? She was my father's mother. I have very little information about her. She was married to Joseph Phillips a school teacher, and principal. My father was born 9/1/1907 in Texas. She died April 28 1915 in Harris County (Houston) Texas. She was a granddaughter of ggranddaughter of a Lord Steele of Scotland. My father left home at age sixteen, and never went back. He mentioned having a sister, and I think a brother giving them phoney names. I really think he did not want to be found. If anyone has a Nina May in their family with a bank robbing son let me know.

Subject: Introduction... - Hi everyone, I have just started using the Steele National repository. I don't know a lot of information regarding my Steele line, but I'll share what I do know.

The first written record that I have of my great grandfather, James Steele, is a marriage certificate dated June of 1892 in Russell, White County, Arkansas. He married a widow named Amy Hogue. As the 1890 census was destroyed by fire, I do not know if he was in White County at the time of the census or not. He was on the 1900 census (James aka Jim Steel) with his wife Amy, two step-children and Amy's niece, Esta Roetzl. His half-brother, John Butler Steele, didn't show up on the records until the census in 1910. At that time he was married to Jim's step-daughter, Mary Hogue. Amy Hogue Steele died in about 1915 and Jim married my great grandmother Monnie Scantlin in about 1918. They had four children before Jim passed away in 1926. According to Jim's death certificate he was born in Georgia the son of George Steel/Steele and Eliza (Morton?). When John aka General Steele died, his death certificate listed his birth place as Georgia and his father's name as George. I have tried to locate them on Georgia census, birth and marriage records, but have made no progress yet. Jim was said to be of American Indian descent on his mother's side and although you can see American Indian features on my grandfather and his children, I have no proof of this. According to General's daughter, the family hid out in North Georgia after the removal in the 1830's and waited until about 1880 to follow family members who had gone to Oklahoma. She said that they followed the Trail of Tears as their anscestors had done.

I am still doing research when I have time, so if I find any information on your family I will let you know. If you would like to check out my family tree on line, the address is .

I am using a new program called GED2WEB that generates web pages for every person in my Ged Com file on the fly. There are 11 pages of indices with 200 names per page. I have detailed information and photos on some people, but for others I don't have any information other than their names.

Good luck in your searching.

Subject: Introduction... - Hello, I joined this list about a month ago and am just now getting around to posting my intro and the relatives that I'm searching for info on.

My name is Terri. I live in DE with my husband and adorable cat on our 48ft sailboat 'Stone Dancer'. The Steele line in my family is maternal and my relatives are:

They had 7 children
Abraham - b:12/25/1763 (in York, PA) - d: 3/13/1836 (Bedford PA)
married MAry Elizabeth Gerhart

I am descended from Abrahams line.

Other children are: Jacob, Phillip, George Jr. (b:1760 and went west),Elizabeth (married William Stultz), Mary (married John Conner) and Catherine (married John Young)

Any links or info would be appreicated

I am also searching for the Eachus surname in PA - Abrahams son Solomon had a son John W. who married Amanda Smith and Amanda's maiden name was Eachus. She is supposed to be Cherokee. I haven't been able to find any certain links to other Eachus in PA (Franklin county).
