Subject: Steele Family: Virginia - The following is from handwritten records found in the papers of Belle Thompson Steele, wife of Homer Constant Steele born in Augusta County, Va. Subject: Origin of the Steele surname - The Steele name is one of the Scottish surnames that was not associated with a Clan. Only 20% of Scottish surnames were associated with a clan.
The surname Steele (like many others) was associated with a district. Steele was associated with the district of tweedside which forms the naturla border between Scotland and England.
The Steeles were defenders of the Scottish border against the English.

Subject: Steele family from North Carolina (Charlotte, Wingate or Marshville) - I am looking for information on the Steele family out of North Carolina(Charlotte, Wingate or Marshville)..I am really new at this and am trying to find some family background. My grandfather was Brady Steele and my grandmother was Sarah(neeHuntley) My grandfather's mother remarried and she Sparks. I believe that my ggrandmother was white. Subject: New York Steeles - When I ran the research report for George Steele and descendants, I got hits from your web site on some of my aunts and uncles. I can't seem to find them actually on it though. My grandfather was George Steele, Rev. George Steele, of Ilion New York. Is it any relation to yours? The Steele, Stahl, Staley family purchased the Staley Patent and settled in the Mohawk Valley around 1747. Please let me know if you have any info.

Subject: Ireland to Armstrong County, PA - Matthew Steele died in Ireland 1818. Sometime after, his wife, Martha Ferguson Steele and children came to US(not all at the same time), and located in Armstrong County, PA.
