According to Alonzo, family was in Virginia prior to Revolutionary War, one ancestor operated Srteele's Tavern in the Shenandoah valley. Subject: Steeles, Ireland/So. Carolina/Alabama - My grandmother was Esther Blanch Steele b. April 1900 Baldwin County, Alabama. She Married Curtis Tanger Ezell b. 1895 Alabama. Her father was Isaac Shoven Steele b. May 15, 1856 Walton Co. Florida. Isaac was the son of William Colby Steele b. 1822 in Walton Co. Florida. William was the son of Peter Henry Steele b. 1794. Peter had a brother name Samuel Steele b. 1792. The Steeles came from Ireland to America settling in different parts of the United States. My family of Steeles came to South Carolina where they built large businesses from the cotton industry. They were Irish, quict of temper and thrived on adventure. Many of them were of fair complexion, and blue or hazel eyes were more common than dark eyes, but often a descendant married into families of dark complexion and dark hair, and outcome would be perhaps blondes, redheads and brunettes all the same family.I'am become paricularly interested in the family who left Charleston South Carolina and came to Conecuh County, Alabama before 1820 as census records show some of their children born in South Carolina.

Subject: Steel from Morgan County Kentucky - I am looking for my lineage, and unfortunately the Steeles never discussed their ancestors. I know my grandfather, Elliott Steele was of Dutch descent. Anyhow, he spoke Dutch when I was little. He married Edith Smith and they lived in Beechwoods, which is outside of Falls Creek, Jefferson County, Pennsylvania. I will be searching this site, but so far I have not found anything that looks familiar. If anyone can help me, I would surely appreciate it.

Subject: MARGARET STEELE - My great grandmother's name was EMMA ROZELLA (McCORKLE) PECKENPAUGH. In her funeral book her mother is listed as MARGARET STEELE and her father is listed as JOHN W. McCORKLE. Her father's Civil War discharge papers list his birthplace as Putnam County, IN. He was a member of the 34th & 38th Consolidated Infanty -Iowa. I know next to nothing about Margaret. Family stories say she died when Emma Rozella (Zella) was 18 months old. Her father died when she was 3 yrs. old. She was raised by her uncle & aunt JOSEPH LOWRY McCORKLE and JENNY (MATHERS) McCORKLE in Iowa and Nebraska. Joseph's death cert. shows he was born in Putnam Co. IN.
