      Our Duncan family originated from Dunbartonshire, Scotland.  James Duncan was born in 1807 and immigrated to Canada as a young man around 1833.  He homesteaded in Dalhousie Township, Lanark County, Ontario, Canada.  In 1836 he married Jane Purdon, the daughter of Robert Purdon and Jane Ferguson.  To them were born 13 children.
