Test kit 8668 traces his lineage to John Logan RAINEY b 30 May 1816 in Hardin Co. KY who mar Serena Murphy 16 Mar 1837 in Pulaski Co. KY. John L. d 1882 and Serena in 1905. Their ch were: (1) Lucy A. RAINEY b 1837; (2) Mary “Polly” RAINEY b 1842; (3) John RAINEY b 1842; (4) William Franklin RAINEY b 1845 mar Jamima Whitson in 1867, d 1909; (5) Minerva RAINEY b 1845; (6) Sarah E. RAINEY b 1849; (7) Nancy RAINEY b 1852; (8) Robert RAINEY b 1855, moved to either Washington or Oregon.   John Logan RAINEY is a son of Aaron RANEY b 1785 who mar Mary “Polly” Humphries in 1804 and lived in Pulaski Co. KY. Aaron RANEY’s death record on file at Frankfort KY states that his parents were James and Lydia RANEY.  Some researchers believe this James RANEY to be the Rev. War soldier James RAINEY b ca 1751 and died ca 1838 in Pulaski Co. KY

 

Samuel RANEY of Russell Co. VA  to Lawrence Co. AR:

Test kits 10606 and 10964 trace their lineage to Samuel RANEY b 15 Aug 1777 either VA or NC, mar 4 May 1794 Margaret Fortenberry, came to New Madrid Territory in MO/AR ca 1807, d 1 Nov 1857 Lawrence Co. AR.  They had ten children: (1) James RANEY b 1798 mar 1st unknown and 2nd Mrs. Savilla Dudley, d 1838; (2) Ursula RANEY b 26 May 1800, mar 1st Jacob Ogden, d 1853; (3) John RANEY b 1802 mar 1st Delia Fortenberry, mar 2nd unknown, mar 3rd Nancy Wayland, d 1859-60; (4) William RANEY b 1805 mar Rebecca Wayland, d 1850’s; (5) Isaac RANEY b ca 1807; (6) Jane RANEY b 1809 mar 1st James F. Gibson, mar 2nd James McGuire, d after 1860; (7) Radford Ellis RANEY b 1812 mar Huldah Morris, d 1892; (8) Andrew Jackson RANEY b 1815 mar 1st Mary Steadman, mar 2nd Julia F. Chadwick, d 1861; (9) Morgan RANEY b 1818, mar 1st Nancy Taylor, mar 2nd Elvira West; (10) Samuel RANEY Jr. b 1820.  Researchers on this line believe the NC Rev. War soldier John RANEY b 6 Mar 1757 NJ and d 22 Feb 1847 Independence Co. AR is the father of Samuel RANEY. This John RANEY stated on his pension application that he was b in NJ 1757, mov to NC ca 1760, joined the militia in 1775 at Surry Co. NC, mov after the war to Washington & Russell Co. VA, then to Knox Co. TN and to White Co. TN. Samuel RANEY had land records in Russell Co. VA. He also had a sister Ursula RANEY and named one of his daughters Ursula RANEY.

 

Isaac Alexander RANEY, descendants to Rowan Co. NC:

Test kit 43276 traces his lineage to Isaac Alexander RANEY b 1828 and d 1864 during Civil War and buried in Elmira NY. He mar Martha Elizabeth Gardner who was b 1829 and d 1892. Her 2nd marriage was to William A. Ritchie after the Civil War.  His son Rufus Alexander RANEY b 1856 d 1939 mar Mary Barringer and lived Rowan Co. NC.

Test kit 70237 traces his lineage to Aaron RAINEY b ca 1765, mar Nancy ?, d ca 1817 Kershaw District SC. Children listed in an old letter from Martin relatives dated 1858 and in estate settlement papers in Kershaw District SC include: (1) Nancy RANEY b 1785-90 SC mar Sherwood Martin, d Tippah Co. MS; (2) Elijah RAINEY b bef 1797, mar Sarah?; (3) Abigail RAINEY b 24 Apr 1788, mar Mason Wood, d 20 July 1846; (4) Josiah “Joe” RANEY b 1796-1803, mar Alsa Manerva Ford; (5) Hiram Kendrick RANEY b ca 1800 mar Margaret Blackwood, d 1853 in Tippah Co. MS; (6) Elizabeth RANEY b ca 1805 mar Hugh Lee Street; (7) Timothy RANEY b 19 June 1806 SC, mar 1837 Marshall Co. MS to Mary E. Evans, d 1878 Clark or Independence Co.
