Note: William Nelson was born William Nelson Owen, a son of James M & Martha (Blair) Owen. It is said that
William Nelson Owen dropped the Owen surname after killing or taking the blame for killing a Union Soldier.
The Union was in pursuit of William Owen, but he was able, with the help of friends and family to escape to
the Corning Arkansas area, afterwhich he dropped the Owen name and became William Nelson. William Nelson
would later establish Nelson Township and town of Datto. William was married first to Nancy Jane Watson.
After her death he was married to Cynthia Ann Golightly.
