This is my Greatgrandmother Martha Loretta (Retta) Cranford (on the right) and her cousin Della Griffin.

(((((WARNING)))))This first part on William Cranford is all postulation.. I have found no hard proof that William is the father of the 3 listed boys.. If you have proof of who John Calvin Cranford's father is I would love to hear from you!!!!

"John Cranford was born in Virginia about 1781 and died February 12, 1868.

He was a soldier of the War of 1812 from Chester Co. S.C. He received land

in Walker Co. in the early 1850's for service in the war. He moved to Morgan

Co. Alabama in the 1820's and from there to Walker Co. Alabama."

 

"Elizabeth (Wilkes) Cranford was the daughter of Abner Wilkes and Martha.

She was born in S. C. about 1790 and died in 1868 in Alabama. Abner Wilkes

was the son of Thomas Wilkes and Mary (Conyers or Conyears, she was the

daughter of Richard and Margaret (Anrundel) Conyers). Thomas Wilkes was the

son of Francis Wilkes and Grace________."(see Wilks info)

 

"The Wilkes genealogy has been compiled in a book by Ivan E. Bass in 1964.

It includes the family of John Cranford and Elilzabeth Wilkes. The book is

probably out of print, (pp. 15-16).
