  Biographical Information

  I was born 2 July 1934 about half way between the towns of Robeline and Marthaville in rural Natchitoches Parish, LA the ninth child of Melvin David and Nannie Crow Holt. The other children were Lola Ruth, Melvin David, Jr., James Dudley, Lettie Marie, Tommie Louise, Charles Jack, Donald Glen, and Elvin Roy, my twin brother. I attended Robeline Elementary and High School and Coushatta High School in Coushatta, Red River Parish, LA, where I graduated in 1952. I received my B. A. degree in Religion with a minor in German from Centenary College of Louisiana in 1958. I married Elizabeth Jones 15 June 1957 i her home church of St. Paul's in Cleburne, Johnson County, TX. I received my Masters of Theology degree from the Perkins School of Theology of Southern Methodist University in 1961. I was ordained Deacon and received as a Probationary Member in the Central Texas Annual Conference of The Methodist Church in 1959. I was ordained Elder and received in Full Connection in the Louisiana Annual Conference in 1961. I served the following local churches in Louisiana and Texas: Bethel near Logansport, LA, Abbott-Vaughan near Hillsboro, TX, First Methodist Church of Crowley, LA as Associate Pastor, Felicity United Methodist and Spanish Speaking Ministry in New Orleans, LA, Ringgold United Methodist Church in Ringgold, LA, St. Marks-Little Creek United Methodist Churches in the Monroe District, LA, Wesley United Methodis Church in Sulphur, LA, Luling United Methodist Church in Luling, LA, Campti-St. Maurice United Methodist Churches in the Alexandria District, LA, and Couley-Atlanta United Methodist Churches in the Alexandrie District, LA. My wife, Elizabeth, and I spent eight years as missionaries of The United Methodist Church to the Republic of the Philippines. We have four sons: Melvin Ray, Jr., Michael Roy, David Porter Jones, and Charles Glen. We have two granddaughters: Catherine Rachel and Carolyn Grace. Melvin is married to the former Julieanne Mackinney and David is married to the former Julie Lynn Collada. I am now happy to claim two grandsons, Drew and Micheal. They are the sons of Charles Glen and Kim Richards Holt. Life has been good and the best is yet to be.

  Active in the Walk to Emmaus Ministry

  The Walk to Emmaus is an intensive three day week-end sponsored by the Upper Room division of the Board of Discipleship of The United Methodist Church. It's purpose is to equip Christians in local congregations for leadership. It is open to members of any Christian denomination.   Avid lover of history and amateur Genealogist

  I have always had a love of history. History is not simply dead facts with no importance for us in the present. History is the story of where we have been and we cannot have a clear understanding of where we are going if we do not understand the people and forces that have brought us to where we are in the present. Genealogy is simply an extension of my love of history. It allows me to visualize my ancestors in the events of history and gives those events more significance for me. History and genealogy make excellent bed-fellows.
