Aunt Effie was for many, many years the family genealogist. She researched and collected information about the Wiser and Telford and associated families. She wrote personal histories. The Daughters of Utah Pioneers turned to her often when information was needed. As she never had children, she has no grandchildren or great grandchildren. With great affection, she is to us all, "Aunt" Effie. To you, Aunt Effie, I dedicate this web book.

15 April 2001 edition notes:

"Aunt Effie," Effie Lenore Wiser was born 22 Feb 1886. She was an avid genealogist. Her collection of photographs passed to Effie's niece, Barbara Wiser Plowman (Wayne's daughter) and then to Barbara's sisters, Janet and Marilyn. In April of 2001 Anita Wiser Raymond borrowed the photographs and I digitized the collection.

All the photographs were scanned at 600 DPI and can be found in the "Hi-Res" folder in TIFF format. Some of the documents were scanned at a lower resolution to make the file size more manageable. I then reduced the size, usually to 20% of the original and stored the photographs in JPEG format. The JPEG files are more convenient for idle viewing and for locating a photograph among the collection.

For the most part, the filenames are the verbatim captions written on the backs of the photographs, including spelling. In a couple of cases, I also scanned the back of the photograph or document. The back can be found in a separate file, or miniaturized in the file below the photograph. If no caption was present, I tried to identify the individual in the filename, somethings noted with a "maybe" or "probably." Some photographs were in little, paper frames. Where possible, these were scanned both in and out of the frame, as indicated in the filename. If the captions on two photographs were identical, I sometimes added additional information to differentiate them, or I added a numeral such as "(2)".

Several portraits remain unidentified. "Unknown1" and "Unknown2" both were found inside an envelope from the Presiding Bishop's Office to Byron C. Wiser. Also in the envelope were two pictures of Wayne and two pictures of his wife Eva England. I assume the two have some connection to Wayne. The young boy of "Unknown1" bears a resemblance to the children in the photograph "S F Wiser family."

The man on the tractor is identified as "Wayne T Wiser - I think..." Anita Wiser Raymond says it doesn't look like Wayne to her, but she doesn't know who it is. She says it looks like Samuel's farm in Lewiston.

The portrait titled "S F Wiser on metal" deserves some comment. I don't know if it is a daguerreotype. Scrapped into the shellaced metal on the reverse side is "S F Wiser." I'm suspicious that the photograph would not be on metal if taken in Samuel's youth. I suspect the young man is actually John McCormick Wiser, but I have no proof.
