FINDINGS
This
newsletter is dedicated to the recent passing of a number of our family
members. Their line (or their
spouse’s) of descent from Benjamin Wiser is noted in parentheses.
OBITUARY:
Deseret News, 16 Mar 2000; Richfield, UT-Laural Hyrum Stott (Della Alberta
Cunningham, Mary Olive Wiser, John McCormick, Samuel, Benjamin), age 78, died
March 14, 2000 in Mayfield, Utah.
He was born April 15, 1921 in Ashton, Idaho, a son of James William and
Della Alberta Cunningham Stott, both deceased. He graduated from Manti High School,
class of 1939 and from Snow College.
He served in the United States Army during World War II for five
years. He graduated from USU in
1948. He married Lillian Taylor,
March 6, 1957 in the Manti LDS Temple.
Laural worked for the Soil Conservation Service as a Soil Scientist and
retired after 42 years of service.
He was a member of the Redview Riders in Richfield for more than 35
years, where he served as president for several years and also State Director
from the Richfield area. He was an
active member of the LDS Church. He
enjoyed hunting and fishing and being in the out of doors. He is survived by his wife, Lillian;
children: Ann Stott of South Ogden; Miriam and Kelley Chambers of North Ogden;
Rodney and Mindy Stott of Logan; grandchildren: Jessica Stott, Sydnie Stott,
Jacob Stott (deceased), Mataja Stott, Matthew Stott, Cade Stott, Joshua
Chambers, Rachelle Chambers, Chad Chambers and Olivia Chambers; sisters and
brothers: Vonda Bogh of Centerfield; Don Stott of Manti and Gail Stott of
Richfield; mother-in-law, Orpha Taylor of West Valley City. He was preceded in death by four
brothers: Leon Stott, Girven Stott, Elden Stott and Ben Stott. A special thanks
to the Mayfield Care Center staff for the loving care provided our husband and
father. Funeral services will be
held Sat., March 18, 2000 at 12 noon in the Richfield 7th LDS Ward Chapel,
located at 159 North 400 West in Richfield. Friends may call for viewing at the
Springer Turner Funeral Home, 260 North 400 West, in Richfield, Friday evening
from 7 to 9 p.m. and at the ward chapel Saturday from 10:30 to 11:30 prior to
the services. Graveside services
and burial will be held Sat. afternoon at 4 p.m. in the Manti City Cemetery
under the direction of the Springer Turner Funeral Home of Richfield and Salina,
Utah.
OBITUARY:
Deseret News, 6 Mar 2000, Robert James Brown, 79, Sandy, UT, formerly of Boise,
passed away March 3, 2000, at a local Boise hospital. A viewing for friends and family will be
held Tuesday, March 7, from 6-8 p.m. at the Relyea Funeral Chapel, Boise,
ID. A viewing will also be held
Wednesday, March 8th, from 6-8 p.m. at the Larkin Sunset Gardens, 10600 South
1700 East, Sandy, UT. A funeral
will be held in Sandy, UT, at 11 a.m., Thursday, March 9 at the Crescent Stake
Center with a viewing from 9:45-10:45 a.m.
Burial to follow at the Fairview Cemetery, Fairview, ID. Robert was born April 5, 1920, in
Weiser, ID, the son of Nile L. and Marvilla (Olson) Brown. He grew up and attended Weiser schools
graduating from Weiser High School.
He later graduated from Brigham Young University. Robert proudly served his country in the
U.S. Air Force, retiring as a colonel.
He worked for the Bureau of Reclamation as Superintendent of the Snake
River Project, retiring in 1983.
After his retirement he worked in Sri Lanka, Pakistan and Egypt for U.S.
Aid Projects. He was a member of
the LDS Church and served a mission with his wife, Vila, in New Zealand. He also served in many church
callings. Survivors included his
wife of 56 years, Vila Rawlings (NaVella Wiser, George Harmon, John McCormick,
Samuel, Benjamin) Brown, Sandy, UT; three daughters, Susan Morris, Arco, ID,
Janice Stapleton, Sandy, UT, Nancy Brown, Boise, ID; eight grandchildren; one
sister, Melba B. Swift, Salt Lake City, UT; two brothers, Gail N. Brown,
Concord, CA, Allen L. Brown, North Ogden, UT; and numerous nieces and
nephews. He was preceded in death
by his parents, a son James Richard Brown, and a grandson, Bradley P.
Stapleton. His family and friends
will miss his love of live and his sense of adventure.
OBITUARY:
Twin Falls Times-News, 19 Mar 1999; Merlin Hyrum Loosli (Minnie Lucinda
Cunningham, Mary Olive, John McCormick, Samuel, Benjamin), 84-year-old resident
of Wendell, Idaho, passed away on Wednesday, March 17, 1999, at the Veteran's
Hospital in Boise, Idaho. He was
born September 16, 1914, in Ashton, Idaho, to Joseph Frank and Minnie Lucinda
Cunningham Loosli. He attended
schools in Ashton and Rupert, Idaho.
Captured by the Japanese Armed Forces on Wake Island, December 23, 1941,
he spent the duration of World War II as a prisoner of war in China and
Japan. Merlin married Irene
Morehouse on July 13, 1947, in Rupert, Idaho. The marriage was later solemnized in the
Idaho Falls Idaho LDS Temple. They
lived first in Rupert where he was engaged in business. They moved to Wendell in 1950, where he
farmed. Irene departed this life
Feburary 1, 1981. On December 4,
1982, he married Betty Buhler of Wendell.
They greatly enjoyed each others companionship over the following
years. As a member of the LDS
church, he fulfilled various church callings including couselor in Elder's
Quorum Presidency, High Priest Group Leader, Sunday School President, Ward
Financial Clerk, Church Farm Manager, Stake Auditor, and Temple worker at the
Boise Idaho Temple. He remained
active throughout his life with activities of the survivors of Wake Island,
Guam, and Cavite. He was preceded
in death by brothers, Verl Loosli and Marvin Loosli. He is survived by his wife, Betty of
Wendell; one son, M. Wayne (Lucy) Loosli of Rexburg; daughter, Jean (Joe)
Dickinson of Kalispell, Montana; daughter, Carol Anderson of Boise; step
children, Jeanne (Jim) Prince of Wendell, Sherry (Hyrum) Newton of Wendell, Bobi
(Bill) Vigliotte of Idaho Falls, Ron (Cheryl) Buhler of Wendell and Wayne (Kari)
Buhler of Springville, Utah; sisters, Verga Masoner of Rupert and Vera Jordan of
Portland, Oregon; brothers, Dale (Dorothy) Loosli of Caldwell, Idaho, Gar (Pam)
Loosli of Rupert and Clair (Edith) Loosli of Portland, Oregon; 28 grandchildren;
12 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. We all appreciated his smile and sense
of humor. Services for Merlin will
be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 20, 1999, at the Wendell 1st Ward LDS Church,
605 N. Idaho St., Wendell, Idaho, with Bishop Sherman Young conducting. Burial will follow at the Wendell
Cemetery. Friends may call at
Demaray's Wendell Chapel, 164 E. Main, Wendell, on Friday, March 19, 1999, from
7 p.m. to 8 p.m. and for one hour preceding services at the LDS
Church.
OBITUARY:
Ogden Standard-Examiner, Brigham City-Elnora Phebe Cunningham Halgren (Andrew
Hyrum Cunningham, Mary Olive Wiser, John McCormick, Samuel, Benjamin), 93, died
2 May 1999 at the Godfrey Nursing Home in Brigham City, UT. She was born 25 Sep 1905 in Ashton,
Idaho, a daughter of Andrew Hyrum and Amy May Wilson Cunningham. She married Ivan Hindberg on 2 Oct 1923
in Brigham City, Utah. He died
February 7, 1947. Their marriage
was solemnized on October 26, 1948 in the Logan Temple. She married Harold Jensen on December 9,
1954 in the Logan Temple. He died
October 10, 1968. She then married
Clifford Halgren on September 2, 1972 in the Ogden Temple. He died September 28, 1996. She served in various ward and stake
callings. She was an ordinance
worker in the Ogden Temple. She and
Clifford served a mission in Union Town, Penn. At the time of her death she was a very
active and faithful visiting teacher.
Surviving are a daughter, Bertha Rader, Corinne; six stepchildren, Ellis
(Vona) Jensen, Virginia; Lonnie (Sandy) Jensen, North Ogden; LaMoine (Barbara)
Jensen, Florida; Kristeen (Don) Croall, West Valley; Max (Sue) Jensen, Brigham
City; Beverly (Garde) Bowman, Idaho Falls, ID; 32 grandchildren and numerous
great and great-great grandchildren.
Three sisters; 4 brothers; 2 sons and 1 grandson preceded her in
death. Funeral services will be
Thursday, May 6 at 11:00 a.m. in the Brigham 3rd Ward, 203 N. 200 W. Friends may call Wednesday, May 5, 6-8
p.m. and Thursday 9:30-11:30 a.m. at the Olsen Myers Mortuary in Brigham
City. Interment will be in the
Brigham City Cemetery.
DEATH
NOTICE: Idaho State Journal, 19 Sep 1999, Nolan Davis Hendricks, Riverside-Nolan
Davis Hendricks (Oral Dorris, Alla Arminda, John McCormick, Samuel, Benjamin),
83, died Friday, September 17, 1999, at the Bingham Extended Care Facility from
renal failure. Funeral services
will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, September 22, 1999, at the Riverside
Third Ward LDS chapel with Bishop Mark Leavitt conducting. Burial will follow at the Riverside
Thomas Cemetery. Friends may greet
the family on Tuesday evening from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Hill, Hawker,
Sandberg Funeral Home and at the church on Wednesday one hour prior to the
service.
OBITUARY:
Franklin Review Appeal, Franklin, TN, 19 Feb 1999; Mark R. Whittin (Madge
Avanelle Dennison, Jennie I. Morse, Simeon DeWitt, Joseph C. Morse, Alithea
Wiser, Benjamin), 59, of Franklin, died Wednesday, Feb. 17, at Williamson
Medical Center. Mr. Whittin was
born in Oneida, NY, and was a self-employed sales agent. He was a member of The Episcopal Church
of the Resurrection where he was active as president of the Men's Club, head
usher, chairman of the annual Fourth of July Barbeque, cochair of the
Columbarian Committee and a licensed Lay Reader. Survivors include his wife, Roz Whittin
of Franklin; three sons and daughters-in-law, Jeff and Mitzi Whittin of
Thompson's Station, Chris and Sarah Whittin of College Grove and Brent and
Autumn Whittin of Canton, Ill.; brother, Dennis Whittin of Syracuse, NY; and
five grandchildren, Dylan, Dustin, Tyler, Ethan and Stephanie Whittin. Memorial services will be conducted at
11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 20, at The Episcopal Church of the Resurrection with
Fathers Don Johnson, Herman Pomy and James Rogers officiating. Honorary pallbearers will be the Men's
Club at The Episcopal Church of the Resurrection. Visitation will be held 6:30-8:30 p.m.
Friday, Feb. 19, at the church.
