Chuck,
Your information is very helpful. I had seen some of it, but not all of it. I will check into it further, but I just want to send a quick reply to awknowledge receipt. Yes, it is quite possible that the Jessie Gooch who married Bessie Fannin was my grandfather. I have been trying to get more details about that. It is an interesting possibility that she may have died not long after they married. If that is the case, then he probably married again, to my mother's birth mother.
Thanks much for the info, and I will be back in touch after I analyze all this.
God bless/
Ray

>Could the above Jesse Gooch, who married Bessie Fannen on 27 Dec 1901, be your grandfather? And is this Bessie the same Bessie Ann Gooch who died 3 Aug 1903? Could the Infant Son Gooch who died 13 Jul 1903 have been their child? If so, maybe Bessie died from complications arising from childbirth. Could your mother's mother have been Jesse's second wife?

General Notes: Husband - Thomas Gooch
Thomas Gooch (about 1786 - after 1870)
06/95
Based on information received from Bill Gooch, Georgetown, Texas, Thomas Gooch is shown in the census records for McNairy County, TN., 1810-1850. McNairy County, TN. adjoins northeastern Mississippi
12/95
Elizabeth Palmer writes that the father of William Martin Gooch was named Thomas, and she believes that he was a doctor. Her belief is not shared by others, who believe William Martin was the son of a William Gooch.
05/05/96
Census research indicates that there may have been a connection between a Nicholas Gooch and William Gooch in Tishomingo County, MS. in 1840. Another possible connection to this family is in the 1830 census for the Spartenburg District of South Carolina; there are listings for two Jesse Gooches living there, along with a William Gooch.
05/16/96
Based on new finding of James Gooch appearing in the 1800 census for Spartenburg District South Carolina, it is possible that Thomas Gooch was a son of James and Elisabeth Gooch, possibly their first born child (about 1786).
02/08/97
Information from Elizabeth Jane Palmer:
1850 Census Record, McNairy County, TN:
18 632 Gooch Thomas 62 m farmer 300 VA 47a
19 632 Gooch Anna 76 f VA x 47a
# 632
Thomas Gooch, age 62, farmer, BP VA; wife Anna, age 76, BP VA.
06/12/97
New information received from Eddie Josey-Wilson, Great Falls, MT:
Ms. Wilson connects Thomas to White County, TN from 1809 until 1820. She believes he left there in about 1821 to form a new Baptist Church in Danville, Morgan County, Alabama, in company with Nicholas Gillentine. She places Thomas in McNairy County, TN around 1828. Her information hints that Thomas was a Baptist Minister. This differs from earlier information, which placed Thomas Gooch in McNairy County, TN as early as 1810.
Family information for Thomas Gooch updated, based on Ms. Wilson's input, adding information for his spouse, and additional children.
Ms. Wilson believes that Thomas lived until after 1870, as she has found census records in McNairy County, TN showing that he was still alive in 1870.
WebNote:
Possible son of James Gooch; possibly a Baptist Minister or Deacon.
