*Note: A descendant of Clement C McCullah informed me that McCullah is the correct spelling of the name.
**Note: Northeastern Tennessee, where Clement and Clinton were apparently born (possibly in Campbell, Claiborne or Hawkins County), was under several different jurisdictions before Tennessee statehood in 1796. In early days it was managed by Virginia. Sullivan county (divided 1787 creating Hawkins Co ) was established by North Carolina in 1779. Much of the region was included in Spencer Co of the "lost" state of Franklin, which existed from 1784 to 1788. Then it was again included in North Carolina until 1790, when the land was ceded to the federal government and called the "Territory South of the Ohio River." In 1796 Tennessee became the 16th state.
Therefore it is possible that Clement and Clinton McCullah's parents were born in the same area (of what is now Tennessee) they were, only under the jurisdiction of North Carolina at that time.
