William fought in the American Revolution as a Private in the New York Militia. One of the battles he

participated in was the Battle of Bennington in October 1777. He was pensioned later in life for his service to his

country. William Shaff is a recognized patriot in the patriot index of the National Society Daughters of the

American Revolution.

Company D, 50th Engineers New York. He was transferred to Company G on 1 November 1861. Described

as 5'8", blue eyes, brown hair, light

complexion. He left the organization 13 June 1865 at Fort Berry in the grade of Artificer.
