Alanson Wilbur, was probably included as a white male, age ten to sixteen years old, in Thomas Willbur's household on the 1810 Census enumerated in Stephentown, Rensselaer, NY; Asael is missing from the household he should be listed in the 16 thru 25 years column.6,1
Alanson Wilbur served in the military in a company commanded by Captain Miller. This company was in the regiment commanded by Col. Young. Alanson marched from Troy to Plattsburg for about four weeks until he was taken ill. At that time Alanson was ordered to return home until he had recovered. in October 1813 in Sand Lake, Rensselaer, New York.7,8,1 He continued his military service on August 1814 in Nassau, Rensselaer, New York.7,8,1
Alanson Wilbur ended his military service in October 1814 in Whitehall, Washington, New York. Where he served for 18 days as a private in Major B. Yales Battalion New York Militia in Capt. Lemuel Sherwood's Company. He was honorably discharged 72 miles from his residence.9,8
Alanson Wilbur married Sally Moore in Rensselaer County, New York.1,10,4 Alanson was a tenant, at the age of 24, of the Dutch patron, Stephen Van Rensselaer, proprietor of the enormous Rensselaerwich Manor in Rensselaer County NY. The record of these tenancies which are preserved in the NY state library in Albany, show a lease made August 11, 1790 to Luther Gates for 215 acres in Nassau township (old Phillipstown) for 60 years, the annual rental being 12 and 9/10 bushels of wheat delivered to the landlord. This land was identified on the ancient tract map as being Phillipstown, west of Stephentown and south of Sand Lake, near Dunham Hollow. The tenant ledgers record that Alanson had purchased the interest in the lease of one "Newton"; In 1820 the leasehold ownership was divided between John Tift, John Holden, George Simms and Alanson Wilbur. (records show Alanson as Lanson).1
Alanson Wilbur, 33 years old, was listed as the head of a family on the 1830 census enumerated in Sand Lake, Rensselaer, NY. Based on ages, it is possible the following were also living in the household, Jefferson Wilbur, a white male, age newborn to 4 years old, Harriet M. Wilbur, a white male, age five to nine years old, Harrison M. Wilbur, a white male, age ten to fourteen years old, Laura Wilbur, a white female, age fifteen to nineteen years old, Sally Wilbur, a white female, age thirty to thirty-nine years old.11
Alanson was listed as the head of a family on the 1850 Census in Lyons, Wayne, New York. Sally Wilbur, Ann Wilbur, Jefferson Wilbur and Elmira Eisenlord "Myra" Wilbur were listed as household members. Also living in the household with Alanson and Jefferson's family is Lafayette b. NY age 15 (so far I have not been able to place who this is.).3 According to the Census, Alanson was Farmer on 11 November 1850 in Lyons, Wayne, New York.3
Alanson Wilbur was living on 19 December 1855 in Belvidere, Boone, Illinois.8 According to his will, Alanson Wilbur was awarded for military service in the War of 1812, 16 Acres Bounty Land Warrant 81,496 Bonus Prairie, Boone, Illinois.10 On 21 November 1859, Alanson died in Bonus Prairie, Boone, Illinois,, at the age of 63, of Cancer of the Stomach..10,1 He left a will on 21 November 1859 in Belvidere, Boone, Illinois. Harrison M. Wilbur, Laura Reynolds, Harriet M. Wilbur, Jefferson Wilbur and Sally Wilbur were mentioned in the will.12
Alanson's will states the following:
Sally Wilbur, being duly sworn in open court says that she is the widow of Alanson Wilbur deceased and that he died on the 21st day of November A.D. 1859 that said Alanson Wilbur was the indicated person named in Land Warrant NO. 81,496 for one hundred sixty acres and dated July 13, 1858 and to whom said warrant issued and that Laura Reynolds, Harrison Wilbur, Harriet Burch, and Jefferson Wilbur are the only children surviving said Alanson Wilbur & that there is no representation of any deceased child of said Alanson Wilbur.

Alanson Wilber late of said county now at this 20th day February AD 1860 (?) one of the days of the February (?) of said court comes said Sally Wilbur and asks (?) to introduce proof if the death of said Alanson Wilber late of said County and proof of the hardship of said estate and it appearing from the evidence (?) in open court that said Alanson Wilber late of said County died at his residence in the town of Bonus in said County of Boone on the 21 day of November AD 1859 and left him surviving his widow Sally Wilber above named and his children Laura Reynolds, Harrison Wilber, Harriet Burch and Jefferson Wilber that said widow & said children are the only heirs of the said estate that said Alanson Wilber was the identified person named in Land Warrant No 81,496 for one hundred sixty acres and dated July 13, 1858 and to whom said warrant issued It is therefore ordered that the proof of said fa to be entered upon the records of said court, and that the Clerk of said court county that said stated above stated were so approved in open court.12 Alanson was buried on Thursday, 24 November 1859 Andrus Cemetery, Bonus Township, Boone, Illinois. Grave is located in Row 1 grave 3, next to his wife Sally, son Harrison and daughter-in-law Mary Fleming.4
