Conrad Reinwald was born on 13 January 1831 in Sandlofs, Kr. Lauterbach, Hessen, Germany . The first child and first son. He was probably the only child as his father dies shortly after his birth.3,4,1,5 He was the son of Johann Heinrich Reinwald and Kunigunda Röder.1 Conrad was baptized on 20 January 1831 in Sandlofs, Lauterbach, Hessen, and his godfather was Konrad Roeder, the son of the deceased Konrad Röder, a linen weaver in Sandlofs.5
The family story states that Conrad left Germany with his 2 brothers.
Research Note:
1. (December 2000) I have not yet found any other Reinwald family in Ontario that maybe Conrad's brothers. So far Conrad is the only one.
2. (24 May 2004) Conrad was the only child of Heinrich and Kunigunda REINWALD due to his father dying when was a year old. If in fact he came with any brothers they would have been step brothers as his mother married in 1833 to Caspar DÖRING. Need to see if there are DÖRING sons that immigrated.
3. (June 2004) Based on the birth of Conrad & Elizabeth's first two children, they probably came to Canada between 19 December 1855 and 30 November 1857. Elizabeth was supposedly pregnant on the journey. Elizabeth was born in 1 May 1828 (Based on Baptismal found in Pfordt, Hesse, Germany). She probably died 1864 based on the birth date of Conrad D. and Conrad's marriage to Anna Elisabeth HABERMEHL.
4. (June 2004)Anna Elisabeth was born 5 April 1844 in Storndorf, Oberhessen, Germany. She died 12 April 1889 in Ellice, Perth, Ontario, Canada, at the age of 45. The Cemetery transcripts of St. John's Lutheran Cemetery of Mornington, Perth, Ontario, Canada lists Anna Elisabeth NEUWALD nee HABERMEHL born 5 April 1844, wife of Konrad NEUWALD. This is probably a misspelling of REINWALD. Anna immigrated with her parents 25 August 1856 on the ship "Bark Therese".
Anna Elisabeth Habermehl is not the eldest John's mother, as she would only be 11 at the time of his birth. There is some confusion as to whether Conrad married twice or not. (June 2003 This confusion seems to finally be cleared) The Baptism of Kunigunda states that her mother's name is Elizabeth Kircher. Also the marriage certificate of Conrad & Anna Elizabeth supports that there were indeed two wives, both who were named Elizabeth. There is a family story that John is Henry's half brother, based on the date of marriage to Anna Elizabeth Henry is not John's half brother. The John that is the half brother is probably John Henrich of Mornington, Ontario.
6 After 19 December 1855, Conrad Reinwald married Anna Elisabeth Kircher, daughter of Konrad Kircher and Anna Maria Siebert, in Germany . This date is based on the birth of the eldest son Johann. Johann's baptism states that he is the illegitmate son of Konrad & Elisabeth. Konrad acknowledges Johann as his son.
(June 2004) I have not been able to locate a marriage of Konrad & Elisabeth in Pfordt, Hess, Germany. They may have married once they arrived in Canada or along the way as the family is found in Canada in 1857. The 1861 Census states that Conrad & Eliisabeth were married..7 Conrad and Anna Elisabeth Reinwald immigrated to New York with his family Johann "John" Reinwald, aboard the ship George arriving 6 August 1856 from Germany.
Note:
There is a supposition that this is the correct entry, however, the list shows that Johann dies during the voyage. There is a single women traveling alone listed on the next line. Was the entry listing the death put on the wrong line? The Passenger lists the family in Steerage coming from Germany to U.S. The following information is listed:
1. Konrad Reinwald Male farmer age 25.
2. Elisabeth Reinwald Female age 27.
3. Johann Reinwald Male age 6 months.
Other than the death of Johann everything else fits.
(Immigrations date 19 Dec 1855-30 Nov 1857 is based strictly on the birth places of his children and the first Census that Conrad appears on.).8,9
On the 1861 Census in North Easthope, Perth, Ontario, Canada,, Conrad was listed as the head of the family. Anna Elisabeth Reinwald, Johann "John" Reinwald, Kunigunde Reinwald and Margaretha "Maggie" Reinwald were listed as household members.
The religion of the Rinewalt household is Methodist.

Note: the name listed in the death index is Conrad RAINVILLE but when looking at the actual death registration it looks like a misspelling of REINWALD. It lists the following items which would be correct for Conrad
Age = 70 years
Place of Death = Stratford
Birthplace = Germany.37 He other possibly of death could be between 1897 and 1898 this is based on the Tax List. Conrad had been paying taxes on the property in Ellice from the date of purchase. In 1898, Jacob Erb begins paying the taxes. (What is the relationship between Jacob and Conrad?) So far I have been unable to find an obituary, cemetary or death record (I have believe that the death date for Conrad is 21 Jan 1901. see the note on the Death date for comment) for Conrad.38,39
