WAKEMAN S. Mathews was born 25 Jan 1844.
There seems to be some confusion as to exactly
where his birth took
place. Some say IL and others report his birth took place in
Oswego, NY. It
is unknown to this researcher which is true, but
his children reported he was born in NY, so that is the
location I
will indicate. He married DELILAH ANN HALL, daughter of GEORGE
HALL and
CATHERINE CARROLL. Delilah was born 24 Oct 1848 in
Defiance Co., OH. She and Wakeman
married 14 Oct 1877 in
Defiance Co., OH. Delilah died in childbirth on 24 Jun 1898 in
Clark Co., IN.
After Delilah's death, Wakeman married ALMEDA E. BOYER
on 23 Nov 1898 in Huntington Co., IN.
It is not known exactly what
convinced Wakeman to "relieve" himself of his children, but
just a few
short months after Delilah's death, he allowed his
youngest daughter to leave IN and travel to
Thomasville, Thomasville
Co., GA with a Ministers wife where she remained for a total of about
3
years. He also admitted his youngest 2 sons to the Indiana
Soldiers and Sailors Children's Home.
Wakeman died 1 Aug 1912 in the
Marion Branch National Military Hospital in Grant Co., IN. He
was
buried in the Marion Branch National Military Cemetery in Grant Co.,
IN. Wakeman and Delilah had 8 children; EDWARD
