of Cannon Co Tn. Nashville records reveal that Indamon L. Elkinswas a soldier
who died in th eMexican was in 1848,not Edmondson Elkins. Court records
dated 5 Oct.1850 Cannon Co.Tn His estate consisted of a land
warrent which
was sold for $100.00. Return of a legal fee $11.00; One Treasury Script
worth $13.26,Making a total of $124.26. Expenses and fees amounted to $50.00,
Leaving a total of /474.26 to divide among 16 legal heirs. Indamon was
not married. and had no children. Brown's History of Woodbury and
Cannon Co.Tn. Records at Nashville reveal that Indamon L.Elkins was a soldier
who died in the Mexican WAr in 1848, not Edmondson Elkins. Court records
of the first settlement of the estate of Indamon L.Elkins, dated 5 Oct
1850 Cannon Co.Tn. His estate consisted of a land warrant which was sold
fro $100.00. Return of a legal fee $11.00;Ibe Treasury Script worth $13.26,
making a total of $124.26. Expenses and fees amounted to $50.00,
leaving a total of $74.26 to among 16 legal heirs, amounting to $4.62 for
each heir.It appears that Indamon was not married as no wife or children
are listed in the first settlement. Two of his supposed brothers were the
administrators of his estate. A search has been made for an account of
the second settlement of Indamon's estate from 1850 to 1860 court records
at Woodbury Courthouse. there were Seven heirs listed in the first settlement.
All counted as Gabriel's children, except for Mrs. I. U. Manus, which will
requrie research
for her given name.

Martha. Mrs Ethel Pope insists that her grandmother told her that her parents
were Gabriel Elkins and Sophia Dilliard and she wrote it down in her baby
book. She also said Gabriel and Sophia moved to Tx, with Martha and
died along with her parents and some other families for Tn. In 1846,
both her parents died, leaving Martha an orphan at age 16.
