Mound builders were in Warren County at an early date as evidence found at Sugar Run and on the Virgil Williams farm at Akeley, Pa., indicate a more or less permanent settlement.
1749 -Celeron Buried a plate at the confluence of the Rivers Ohio and Kanaougou. (Alleghany and Conewango)
1760 -White travelers left a blaze mark upon a tree near the head waters of Glade Run. Thought to be French.
1760 -and earlier. Occupied by Seneca Indians, a branch of the Iroquois.
1784 -Holland Land Company bought large portion of land in Western Pennsylvania by the treaty at Fort Stanwix. Warren itself was not bought by this company, although their agent, Daniel McQuay, lived in the first building erected in Warren.
1795 -Town laid out 25 lots 55x233 ft. Area reserved for civic bldgs. At what is now Market and Fourth Streets, area of the Court House.
1796 -First bldg. Erected. Used by agents of the Holland Land Co.
1800 -Warren County organized. Population 230
1801 -Jacksons Mill on Jackson Run (now known as the Wetmore Farm) sent the first raft of boards down the Alleghany. Jackson was the first White resident of Warren County.
1804 -Warren's first school. Mrs. Clara Cheeks teacher.
1805 -Annexed to Venango County for Judicial purposes
1805 -Aaron Burr went through Warren.
1805 -Daniel Jackson built the first tavern which was the first licensed inn or tavern in the county.
1806 -The first school house was built of rounded logs
1806 -Pioneer Methodist minister Rev. R. R. Roberts preached in Warren.
1810 -Population of Warren County 827
1813 -Town of Warren had 5 houses.
1815 -According to an item in the Warren Evening Times of Sept. 9, 1920, postal service was established in the spring of 1815 with Andrew Coburn as the first Postmaster. But in the same issue Page 12 col. 4 Archibald Tanner is mentioned as the first Postmaster.
1816 -From records of the First Assistant Postmaster General in Washington D.C. the office was first established on Dec. 29, 1816 under the name Broken Straw and Robinson R. Moore was the first Postmaster.
1819 -Again from the records of the First Assistant Postmaster we find that on Dec. 4, 1819 the name of the Post Office was changed to Warren and Archibald Tanner appointed the postmaster.
1819 -First court held in Warren County. Hon. Jesse Moore first Judge 1819-1824. Lansing Wetmore first Prothonotary, Mark Dalrymple first sheriff, and Mathew Young first County Treasurer.
1820 -First frame school house built.
1820 -Population of Warren county 1976.
1825 -The "Conewango Emigrant" was published in Warren, PA
1827 -The first Court House was built of brick mfg. in Warren.
1829 -A stone jail was erected
1830 -Population of Warren County 4706.
1830 -The steam boat "alleghany" went up the river to Olean and returned.
1830 -First piece of Fire Fighting apparatus brought to Warren by Archibald Tanner.
1832 -Warren was made a borough. Population of town 385.
1833 -Act of State Legislature authorized the erection of bldg. To be used as an Academy.
1834 -The first Bank was established in Warren with Robert Falconer Pres. Bank failed in 1838.
1835 Methodist Church built.
1837 A banking house and cashiers residence were built of stone in what is now Judge Wade's residence at 215 Fourth Ave. And known for many years as the Old Mansion House and many years housed the Philomel Club.
1840 Population of Warren County 2978. Warren Borough 737.
1840 Three Churches had been built in Warren, the Presbyterian, a Methodist and a German Methodist. Also two congregations were without a church bldg., a Baptist and a German Lutheran.
1850 Masonic Lodge organized in Warren.
1851 -W. F. Kingsbury started a foundry later (1868) owned by Thomas Struthers and now known as Struthers Wells Titusville Corp.
1859 -Railroad from Erie to Warren was completed
1863 -Oakland Cemetery established by IOOF.
1864 -The First national Bank was organized.
1864 -"Piso's Cure for Consumption" was manufactured by E. J. Hazeltine. The formula a prescription of Dr. M. C. Talbott.
1870 -a building was erected on the Island.
1886 -a new brick bldg. was erected.
1894 -the name was changed to The Piso Company.
1951 -The building was sold and cough syrup is still being sold from Warren although mfg. by a Manufacturing Pharmacist.
1865 -Rouse Hospital erected on land bought from John McKinney and James Shotts: adjoining farms at Youngsville.
1865 -From the Records of the First Asst. Postmaster General we find that Money Order Service was started at the local Post Office.
1866 -Warren and Franklin Railroad was completed via Irvineton to Oil City.
1868 -The public Diamond at Fourth and market Streets disappeared. The land being sold for dwelling houses.
1870 -Citizens Savings Bank organized changed in 1875 to Citizens Nat'l.
1870 -Warren Savings Bank Chartered.
1871 -The Public Library founded
1871 -Suspension Bridge built across Alleghany. First a toll bridge replaced by Concrete bridge about 1920.
1871 -The Dunkirk and Warren Railroad constructed.
1872 -This railroad extended to Titusville and called D.A.V. and Pitts.
1872 -Horse Car Street Railway to East Warren established, but did not pay so was abandoned.
1872 -Illuminating gas and lighted streets.
1872 -First National Bank bldg. erected on the site of the Old Dunn Tavern.
1873 -Site for Warren State Hospital was selected and construction started.
1876 -Present Court House erected upon site of old Court House.
1878 -Company I Pennsylvania National Guard Unit organized.
1882 -Warren Water Works established
1883 -Struthers Library Bldg. erected.
1883 -Railroad to Olean completed now known as the River Division
1883 -Sugar Grove-Farmington Joint Schools Building, originally Sugar Grove Seminary was erected.
1886 -Y.M.C.A. Organized in Warren.
1887 -Again from the records of the First Ass't P.M. General we learn that City Delivery Service was established in Warren Boro with 2 carriers.
1887 -Glade Oil Works erected, the start of Oil refining in Warren.
1888 -Citizens National Bank Bldg. erected on the site of the old Tanner bldg. which had followed Jacksons Tavern on the same site.
1890 -Warren Piano Club organized later known as the Philomel Club.
1893 -Trolly Cars started running in Warren.
1893 -Warren National Bank incorporated.
1895 -First Presbyerian Church erected.
1895 -Grace Methodist Chapel organized for the Methodists on the East side of town
1897 -High School building started at Second and Market Streets at the site of the Old Ludlow house.
1900 -Warren Emergency Hospital Built.
1903 -Rural Free Delivery Established at Warren on Nov. 2, 1905
1910 -New Process Company founded by John L. Blair.
1911 -Daughters of the American Revolution organized in Warren.
1951 -One and one half Million Dollar construction and enlargement of the Warren General Hospital started.
