A letter from Walter W Clark to his cousin, William H Emslie dated Mar 31, Shelby College: Dear Willie,
I rec'd you short letter but I rec'd it with pleasure I always like to hear from home. I will tell you one thing if you send me fifty cts I will have my ugly picture taken for you & send it to you so that you may see how I look in military I am very poor or else I would send it any how, but tin is scarce where I live (and most always is) I am going to join the Episcopal Church in May tell Grandmother So I hope times will get soft again because it don't suit my constitution. Give my love to all the folks, I hope you will get that situation with Pete Regan. We've had two revivals here lately about 100 sinners entered church only 7 out of 20 of the boys belong to the church I don't believe I will come home I am agoing to try and get a situation here. I am compelled to write a very short letter as it is getting late so Good by till the next time.
