DANIEL DAVIS

Born February 15, 1794(1) possibly in Orange County, NY(2), died Wyoming, Essex Township, Stark County, IL April 17, 1872 � 78 years, 2 months, and 2 days, buried Sheets Cemetery, married Switzerland County, IN by Cornelius S. Harris, Justice of the Peace in and for the Township of Posey(3), May 25, 1820 RACHEL ENNIS. The License was issued May 15, 1820, "James Trusdell having first made an affidavit as required by law". Rachel was daughter of Ezekiel and Winneford [Woodard] Ennis(4) born in VA April 15, 1800, died Stark County, IL July 4, 1877 � 77 years, 2 months and 19 days, buried next to her husband(5). Daniel and Rachel [Ennis] Davis buried Sheets Cemetery, located on Section 16, Essex Township, Stark County, IL. Perry Stancliff, Daniel's son-in-law, was named in his will as Executor on the estate of Daniel Davis. His own sons may have lived some distance away at this date. Daniel Davis is one of the pioneers listed in the Stark County, IL "Old Settler's Association". He was said to have arrived in Stark County in 1832.

1. WILLIAM W. DAVIS born while the family lived Posey Township, Switzerland County, IN February 7, 1821, died after 1880, probably married MARGARET MAY(6).

2. MARY JANE DAVIS born while the family lived Posey Township, Switzerland County, IN October 24, 1822, died Stark County, IL May 4, 1858, buried Sheets Cemetery, married Dec. 16, 1838 THOMAS TIMMONS son of Ananias and Eleanor [Wroten] Timmons born Ross County, OH Jan. 4, 1816, died Stark County, IL April 7, 1893.

3. ELIZA ANN DAVIS born while the family lived Posey Township, Switzerland County, IN November 15, 1824, died Stark County, IL May 27, 1898, married 1. Oct. 18, 1843, CHARLES H. LAKE, who died July 8, 1851 � 38 years, 4 months, and 5 days, buried Sheets Cemetery, married 2. Essex Township, Stark County, IL, Feb. 26, 1854 LEVEN EDWARD TIMMONS son of Annanias and Eleanor [Wroten] Timmons born Ross County, OH, Mar. 13, 1830, died Dec. 20,1894. Levan Timmons came to Stark County in 1847 and in time purchased 135 Acres of land later known as the "Timmons Homestead". The family lived Toulon Township, Stark County, IL.

4. MATILDA DAVIS born while the family lived Posey Township, Switzerland County, IN Jan. 14, 1827, she was not mentioned in father's Will and probably died young.

5. MARTHA CAROLINE DAVIS born while the family lived Posey Township, Switzerland County, IN June 3, 1828, died Houston, Harris County, TX Jan. 19, 1911, married Stark County IL Aug. 17, 1848 PERRY STANCLIFF son of David and Amy [Miles] Stancliff born Jan. 21, 1822 Athens County, OH.

6. STEPHEN J. or W. DAVIS born while the family lived Posey Township, Switzerland County, IN October 12, 1830, died Stark County, IL Aug. 8, 1862, buried with the Davis Family at Sheets Cemetery, his stone reads "husband of L. M. Davis". He married Wyoming, Stark County, IL Mar. 30, 1859, MARIA LOUISA A. SPURCK.

7. JOHN J. DAVIS born probably in Stark County, IL May 3, 1833, died after 1880, married Nov. 9, 1854, NANCY J. ALBERTSON by Isaac Thomas JP(7). While mentioned in the will, he was not listed on sale of father's Estate and was probably not in the area at that date.

8. DANIEL MARION DAVIS born Stark County, IL August 26, 1836, and was listed in distribution of father's Estate in 1880, he is referred to as D. Marion Davis. He was not listed on sale of father's Estate and was probably not in the area at that date. There is an infant girl who died Aug. 7, 1865 � 5 days and is buried Sheets Cemetery. Her stone reads- dau. D. M. and E. Davis. This is probably his child, and he married someone with the initial E.

9. PARELINA or PAULINA A. DAVIS born Stark County, IL December 3, 1838, died there Jan. 9, 1872, buried Sheets Cemetery, married May 22, 1856 by Isaac Thomas JP to EZEKIEL ENNIS(8). Ezekiel and their children mentioned in Daniel's Will, but Ezekiel was absent from the Estate sale and may have been living in another area that date, he is not buried in Essex Township with Paulina but he lived Valley Township and may be buried there. Ezekiel Ennis married 2. Julia Eoline Moffitt June 12, 1877 by James H. Miller JP(9).

10. CHARLES B. DAVIS was born May 3, 1841, died Sept. 12, 1864 � 24 years, 4 months and 9 days, during the Civil War. He was a Pvt. Co. E. 112 Illinois Infantry, wounded at the Tennessee River, taken Prisoner near Concord on the Tennessee River. He died in Andersonville Prison.(10) There is a stone for him in Sheets Cemetery.

11. ADALINE WINNEFORD DAVIS was born February 23, 1844. Listed as Adaline Winneford when she was married, Feb. 19, 1865 by Augustus Hammond JP, to WILLIAM A. ELLIS(11). William Ellis, according to census records was born 1837 in IL, father born TN mother born VA.

12. BENJAMIN FRANKLIN DAVIS was born August 25, 1846 (2:34) married Feb. 12, 1871 by J. W. Agard MG, to ADELE M. SELDERS(12)
