(34) ABIGAIL4 STANCLIFT (James3, William2, James1)

Daughter of James and Mary [Lewis] Stanclift born East Middletown, Hartford County, CT July 13, 1753(1), baptized East Middletown, CT July 10, 1753, died after 1806(2), married South Britain, Southbury, CT, Sept. 17, 1782 EBENEZER DOWNS(3) born Woodbury, CT Sept. 1, 1730, died South Britain, CT Jun. 28, 1793 � 51, buried there under stone by James4Stancliff, his wife's brother. His will made Feb.2,1792 appointed his brother Moses Downs as administrator on his estate(4). On Mar.15,1793 a codicil was added asking that his brother in law, Elijah Pierce be made executor. It was witnessed by James Edmond, Aaron Down and James4 Stancliff Jr.

Ebenezer Downs Jr. signed the Memorial sent to the Connecticut Assembly in 1764 asking that the community of South Britain be designated a Parish or Ecclesiastical Society and allowed to maintain a Church(5). He became a Deacon of the Church in 1769.

1. CURRANCE GARRET born South Britain, Southbury, CT Nov. 1, 1773, died Scipio, Cayuga County, NY May 3, 1810, married South Britain, Southbury, CT Feb. 1, 1793 JOHN BOUGHTON son of Timothy and Martha [Scott] Boughton born Poundridge, NY May 2,1770. After marriage of her mother, Abigail, to Ebenezer Downs she was also called Currance Downs. Ebenezer Downs mentioned her as Currance Garret in his will, but treated her in a manner identical to that of his own daughters.

2. EBENEZER DOWNS JR. mentioned in father's will Feb. 2, 1792 received the double portion of an eldest son.

3. MARY ANN DOWNS Received into the Church at Southbury Dec. 24, 1797.

4. NABBY DOWNS mentioned in father's will.

5. SALLY DOWNS born Dec. 17, 1790, died May 14, 1791 � 0-4-28. She is buried at the South Britain Cemetery under a stone carved by her Uncle, James Stancliff. She died before her father made his will, therefore the daughter Sally mentioned in his will must refer to a subsequent child of the same name.

6. OLIVE SALLY DOWNS probably the daughter Ebenezer calls Sally in his will.
