(203) PHEBE JANE6 STANCLIFT (Lewis M.5, ?Lewis4, James3, William2, James1)
Daughter of Lewis M. and Margaret Jane [Gillis] Stanclift born Milton, Saratoga County, NY Aug. 5, 1818, died Elkhart County, IN June 23, 1874, married Dec. 18, 1839 CYRUS FRENCH a blacksmith who was son of George E. French(1). Cyrus French, died Feb. 20, 1859 and is, buried at Burnt Hills, Saratoga County, New York. In 1840 living near Cyrus was Elisha French born 1780-1790 with a female the same age in his household(2). This suggests that Cyrus' father was probably George Elisha French. Enumerated on the same page was James Love, who also married a daughter of Lewis M. Stanclift
Phebe Jane [Stanclift] French moved to the 500 acre "STANCLIFT FARM" in Jefferson Township, Elkhart County(3), IN after she became a widow in 1859. Stanclift Farm was owned by her brother Lewis James Stanclift of Elmira, Chemung County, NY. She remained there for the rest of her days.

1. ALMA JANE FRENCH "Almy" born Jun. 19, 1842, died Nov. 2, 1895, married 1. Calvary Episcopal Church, Burnt Hills, Saratoga County, NY Apr. 16, 1859 ALFRED HIGGINS, married 2. White Pidgeon, St. Joseph County, MI Aug. 1868 LEMUEL CYRUS SMITH son of Jacob Jefferson Smith born Knox County, OH 1840. In 1870 they shared a house in Goshen, Elkhart County, IN with Alma's uncle, William Stanclift. Alma's daughter, Clara Higgins age 9, was with them.
2. ALMIRA S. FRENCH born Jan. 16, 1845, married ANTHONY C. MANNING.
3. GEORGE E. FRENCH born Apr. 15, 1847, died Apr. 25, 1878.
4. LEWIS JAMES FRENCH born May 12, 1849. He was on the list of Scholars of the Pine Creek School in Elkhart County, IN. He lived Emmet County, MI.
5. SETH W. FRENCH born Ballston, Saratoga County, NY Jul. 20, 1853, died � 3, buried Burnt Hills Episcopal Cemetery, Saratoga, Saratoga County, NY.
6. CORNELIUS FRENCH born Saratoga County, NY Apr. 5, 1851, died Jan. 21, 1893 in an explosion in Nappanee, IN, married 1874 SALLY M. ASHLEY born OH Jun. 14, 1853 daughter of Rev. Jonas and Polly [McGee] Ashley. She was raised in Cass County, MI. They had four children.
7. WILLIAM COVERT FRENCH born Sep. 15, 1855, died Mar. 22, 1857.
8. PHEBE JANE FRENCH born Apr. 30, 1858, died Dec. 24, 1862
