(66) BETTE4 STANCLIFT (Comfort3, James2, James1)

Daughter of Comfort and Margaret [Lee] Stanclift born East Middletown, CT Oct. 19, 1756(1) does not appear in the baptism records married Winchester, Ct Oct. 13, 1778 as his second wife the widower DANIEL GROVER. Daniel had married his first wife, Mercy Stannard, in Winchester on Apr. 11, 1773, and had a daughter, Mercy, born May 26, 1776. Mercy [Stannard] Grover died shortly after the birth of her daughter, on June 5, 1776(2). Daniel was a shoemaker and notable for having six fingers on each hand and six toes on each foot. He came to Winchester from Stratford, CT about 1769 with a brother Timothy Grover, who died 1780, and stayed until 1785.

On Sept. 2, 1783 Daniel Grover sold a portion of his homelot in Winchester to his brother in law, Samuel Stanclift, who lived next to him for the next two years until Samuel sold the land and moved to Norfolk, CT.

Daniel and Bette moved to Unadilla(3), NY but were living in Sandisfield, NY in 1800 with other members of Bette's family(4). CHILDREN: Daniel and Bette [Stanclift] Grover born Winchester(5), there are perhaps others born NY.

1. MARY GROVER born July 28, 1783, died July 30, 1783.

2. DANIEL GROVER born Jan. 18, 1787.

3. TIMOTHY GROVER born Mar. 4, 1792, died Mar. 6, 1792.

4. BETTE GROVER born May 3, 1796.
