Daughter of Josiah and ____ Stanclift born while family lived Ellington Parish, Windsor, Hartford County, CT 1759, died Barkhamsted, Litchfield County, CT Apr. 26, 1825, buried Center Cemetery, Barkhamsted, Litchfield County, CT, married Ellington, Tolland County, CT ABNER SLADE son of James and Experience [Parker] Slade born Ellington, CT May 5, 1756, died Jan. 8, 1846, buried Center Cemetery, Barkhamsted, Litchfield County, CT(1).

Abner saw extensive service during the Revolutionary War, and was on the Lexington Alarm List 1775 from East Windsor along with brothers Daniel and Aaron. He was in Capt Simmons Company of Connecticut troops with brother, Aaron Slade, and father-in-law Josiah Stanclift. He again enlisted at Ellington, CT in 1777 and served three years attaining the rank of Sergeant, being discharged at Morristown, Morris County, NJ. For this service he received a Pension.

They moved, after the Revolution, to Wardsboro Township, Dover, Windham County, VT, and were accompanied to VT by both of their parents and families. Olive's brother, William, married Abner's sister Mary. The two families owned land adjacent to one another in Dover. The land was bounded on the South by the Wilmington Town Line. Abner Slade sold his property in Dover in a deed dated Nov. 6, 1789 and recorded Oct, 11, 1790(2) and William Stanclift sold his 75 acre property on Feb. 17, 1790(3). Shortly after the sale of their Vermont property, the two families moved to Hampshire County, MA.

In 1790 Abner and Olive Slade moved to Blanford, Hampshire County, MA, and Olive's brother, William Stanclift, lived a few miles away at Russell, Hampshire County, MA.

In 1796 they moved back to Connecticut and settled permanently in Barkhamsted, Litchfield County, CT(4). After Olive's death Abner married 2. Sept. 26, 1925 Clarissa [Newell] Frazier Flowers or Silco(5) widow of Daniel Frasier born Southington, Hartford County, CT 1776, died Feb. 9, 1851(6) and also buried Center Cemetery.

1. LYMAN SLADE born VT Aug. 29, 1787 or 1778(8), married 1. SALLY FRENCH born 1790 daughter of John and Abigail B. [Gage] French born New Hartford, Litchfield County, CT Nov. 19, 1789, died Barkhamsted, Litchfield County, CT Jan. 7, 1825 � 35, married 2. POLLY BARBER daughter of Capt. Seth and Dorcas Barber born June 17, 1797(9). They had one child, Sarah Jane Slade. In 1860 census records he lived next door to brother, Abner Jr. in the part of Barkhamsted serviced by Hickockville P.O.

2. LOIS SLADE born Apr. 6, 1783, died Barkhamsted, Litchfield County, CT Dec. 1875, buried with her husband at the Riverside Cemetery commonly known as Pleasant Valley Cemetery, Barkhamsted, Litchfield County, CT, married at Barkhamsted, Litchfield County, CT Dec. 5, 1805(10) HAWKINS HART JR. born Jan. 28, 1781, died Oct. 8, 1836, buried next to his wife(11). She was married in what was probably a double ceremony with sister Fanny.

3. FANNIE SLADE born MA 1783(12), married 1. at Barkhamsted, Litchfield County, CT Dec. 5, 1805(13) DAVID IVES. She did not have any children. She probably married 2. _______ TIFFANY as a Fanny Tiffany aged 77 and born MA was living in the household of Abner Slade Jr in 1860.

4. JOEL SLADE born Sept. 29, 1790, died Barkhamsted, Litchfield County, CT Apr. 21, 1871 � 80(14), married CLARISSA FRENCH who died May 12, 1868 � 78, had eight children. He served in the War of 1812.

5. CHESTER SLADE born MA 1793, died Barkhamsted, Litchfield County, CT Jan. 31, 1883 � 90 years, married Apr. 22 or 24, 1822 AMANDA TAYLOR of Hartland, CT. He was mentioned in father's pension application.

7. ABNER SLADE JR born CT 1798, married his cousin FANNY STANCLIFT daughter of Solomon and Abigail [Thomas] Stanclift born Halifax, Windham County, VT Nov. 22, 1804. He lived Barkhamsted, Litchfield County, CT, and was mentioned in his father's pension application.

8. ROXY SLADE may have been the Roxie Stanclift, wife of Solomon Stanclift son of Solomon and Abigail [Thomas] Stanclift who died Oct. 14, 1836 � 36, and is buried Thomas Hill Cemetery, Halifax, Windham County, VT.

9. DANIEL SLADE

10. RUBY SLADE married Barkhamsted, Litchfield County, CT by Saul Clark in 1824 SILAS HAYS of Colebrook, CT.(15)

7. .WILLIAM SLADE OF WINDSOR, CONN. AND HIS DESCENDANTS by Thomas Bellows Peck, page 26, indicates that the names of these children were furnished by Calvin Slade of Barkhamsted, a great grand son., the additional information from existing records.

8. .The birth date of August 29, 1787 appeared in a "Slade Genealogy" found at the Connecticut State Library and submitted by Esther B. Quinon for the DAR. She cited family bible records and 1860 Federal Census Records. The 1860 Census clearly says Lyman was born in VT and was aged 82 years or born in 1778.
