WILLIAM WISWELL
Son of John Wiswell of Massachusetts, whose father was a native of Wales. He was born Newton, MA Mar. 6, 1787, died Erie County, PA Dec. 31, 1852, married Marlborough, Cheshire County, NH July 7, 1807 MERCY WOODFORD born MA Aug. 1, 1788, died Erie County, PA Jun. 20, 1848. He lived Keene, Cheshire County, NH for some years before moving to Washington Township, Erie County, PA in 1817. He lived Washington Township for 7 years then moved to McKean Township, Erie County, PA in 1824.(1)
CHILDREN: William and Mercy [Woodford] Wiswell
1. LOUISA WISWELL born Keene, NH, died McKean, PA Dec. 28, 1850, married TIMOTHY GRANT son of Benjamin and Abiah Collins [Strong] Grant born McKean, PA Aug. 15, 1803, died Lamotte, IA June or May 1861. He married 2. Jackson County, IA Mary Goodrich. Louisa and Timothy had son, Lorenzo Grant, born McKean, PA Aug. 29, 1838 who married a cousin Effie Sedgwick, daughter of Hiram and Julia Ann [Grant] Sedgwick. Lorenzo was named heir of Malantha Clarriman [Stanclift] Wiswell.
2. ASA L. WISWELL born NH 1809, married ASENATH STANCLIFT daughter of Martin and Olive [Stanclift] Stanclift born May 16, 1813. Lived McKean, PA and after the death of Martin Stanclift, Asa Wiswell purchased from his heirs the homestead of his wife"s family.
3. WILLIAM WISWELL born Cheshire County, NH Jan. 2, 1811, married Apr. 17, 1834 RUTH M. GLEETON daughter of Moses and Martha [Stanley] Gleeton both of VT born VT Mar. 23, 1811. He lived on the family homestead, a 140 acre farm near Middleboro, Erie County, PA and raised prize winning cattle. They had children: Ruth A. born May 15, 1836, died April 16, 1845; Alma born Nov. 2, 1839; Albin born Sept. 9, 1843, died Apr. 26, 1845; and Mary C. born Sept. 18, 1847.
4. LORENZO WISWELL born PA 1818, died McKean, PA Will written Dec. 2, 1882 was proved Jan. 6, 1883(2), married Feb. 8, 1842 MALANTHA CLARRIMAN STANCLIFT daughter of Seth and Abigail [McIntyre] Stanclift born Apr. 16, 1821 died McKean, PA May 6, 1908. Lorenzo left his entire Estate to Malantha and since they had no children Malantha named nephew, Lorenzo Grant, as main beneficiary in her will.
