The Weaver family is an interesting, yet exasperating, family to trace. The earliest known ancestor of this family was Craven Weaver, probably the son of James Weaver, who lived in Halifax County, NC, in the late 1700s. He later moved to Lincoln County, TN, where he raised several children. Some of these migrated to Greene County, Illinois; in 1847, Craven and his wife decided to follow their children north. Craven died soon after they arrived, in either 1847 or 1848.

Craven's son, William, moved on to Logan County, Ilinois, sometime during the Civil War. At least three, if not four, of his sons enlisted in the Union Army. It is said that his son Stephen enlisted under another name, as he was underage. Of the three Weaver sons that I know enlisted, Noah died from camp fever after only a short time in service and William, Jr, was permanently disabled in a freak accident while on picket duty. Robert is the only one who saw any length of service. As I have time, I hope to transcribe Robert and William's pension records and add them to this database.

Additional information on the children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren will be added as they are found. For more information on these generations, please go to Arthur Ancestors at WorldConnect.
