-
Go
to the MASTER TAG TYPE LIST.
-
Click
on ADD. This will open a window called TAG TYPE DEFINITION.
-
In
the label field type Business.
CLICK ON IMAGE TO SEE LARGER IMAGE
(This is where you would put what you
wanted your tag to be called)
-
And
pick a tag group for it to be in. I would use OTHER.
-
Marriage
group is for marriages
-
Birth
group is for tags that you want to use to figure a birth date
-
Death
group is for tags that you want to use to figure a death date
-
Other
is the one I use the most.
-
Now
click on the tab that says ROLES and SENTENCES. This is where
you will design the sentence that you want to use for this tag.
-
You
can create any role you want, or just use the Principal and witness
sentences. I prefer roles, so we are going to create a role
called OWNER.
(You can use any name you want, just keep it below 20
characters)
-
The
first thing to do is click on the button that says NEW. There
will be a window that will open called NEW ROLE.
-
In
the box, type in your new role name. Let's call it Owner.
-
Now
we need to think up a sentence. How do you want it to read? I
want mine to say "Bob Jones was the owner of a business on 23 Jan
1990 in Rutherford County, TN."
So my sentence is going to be [R:Owner] was the owner of a business
<[D]> <[L]>. <[M]>
-
[R:Owner](
-that will tell TMG to put in his full name)
<[D]> (that will tell TMG to use the date)
<[L]>. (That will tell TMG to use the place.)
<[M]> (That will tell TMG to use the memo if you have one)
-
See
the help file for more variables.
-
You
can choose the sex you want to use this tag for. And a minimum and
maximum age. I usually use the defaults.
-
On
the other tab, you can choose:
-
Using
the label above: (This tells TMG to use this label on the PV of the
person who is a witness)
-
As
witness (This tells TMG to use witness on the PV of the person who is
a witness)
-
Display
roles: You can pick do you want the roles to show on the PV
window. This is why I use Roles not P1 and P2. You can
show those roles on the PV. So make them descriptive. But
less than 20 characters.
-
You
can then set a year validation. For instance, for the 1850
census, I put 1849-1851. TMG will then warn you if you try to
use this tag outside that year range. You still can, you'll just
get a warning.
