| Setting up a standardized name for sorting | |||
| Several of us want to use John's utility to create a name that TMG will use to sort names together when we have several spellings of the same name. Here is how I set up my tag. | Created by Teresa Ghee Elliott using TMG utility 5.0 created by John Cardinal. | ||
| Step
one:
BACKUP YOUR DATA unless you don't like the way this works. Create a name tag called Name-Standard Make the sentence -- |
|||
| Next
create a name style called Name Standardized
This is the output template to use: Will display as [GivenName] [Surname] [Suffix] Surname Sort template: [Surname], [SortGiven] [Suffix] [Title] Surname display template: [Surname], [GivenName] ([Title]) [Suffix]-Name Standardized Leave the others like they are.
|
|||
| Now
use John's utility to create the new name.
Have it search for name X and change it to Name Y. This will create a new name with the surname Y in the Surname field and the Sortsurname field. Use the Name-Standardized tag |
|||
| Now use his utility to change the name style from US standard to Name-Standardized. | |||
| Now
on your PV, you will have:
Name-Standardized tag: Name will display as Y |
|||
| And
on the Picklist, it will display as:
Name standardized as |
|||
| Here's
an example:
Betty Creek. I want to create a name tag for her as Betty Crick so that she will sort under Crick, the more common of the two names. So I run the utility to search for CREEK and change the name to CRICK. I have it create a Name-Standardized tag for this new name tag. Then I use the utility to change the Name Style for all Name-Standardized tags from US Standard to my new Name-Standardized Style. Now Betty Creek will so up on her PV with a tag that says Will display as Crick. And in the Picklist she will show as Name-Standardized as Crick, Betty. The name will sort with the Crick, not under Name-Standardized. |
