The Samuel Plumlees farmed, operated a riverboat landing at
the mouth of Dry Creek, owned riverboats, constructed rafts to take
down the river to Nashville, and built a school for their children
and the children whose parents worked for the Plumlees. They were a
fun-loving family and enjoyed fishing, hunting, trapping, singing,
and playing musical instruments. They had a racetrack where horse
races were held. Their home was the scene of frequent parties and
nay type of activities--corn huskings, hog killings, barn raisings,
quilting bees, et cetera -- was always accompanied with good food,
music, singing and games.

Denton Mack and Adeline Eads Plumlee lived in the Dry Creek
section of the Arcot Community where Denton Mac was a farmer. Denton
Mack and his father, Samuel, owned a large acreage of land and were
awarded several acres of land under the Federal Land Grants, south of
Walkers line, between 1847 and 1867.
Plumlee Family Cemetery has been virtually destroyed through
neglect and only a monument or two remain.

riverboatman who operated three sternwheelers, the Quick Step, the
J.J. Gore, and the L.T. Plumlee, hauling freight and livestock
regularly from Carthage to Burkesville, Kentucky and up the Obey
River from Celina.
Lorenza T. died on the bank of the Cumberland River.

Captain Lue W. Plumlee was born to the river as his father,
Captain L. T. Plumlee, was a raftsman and riverboatman of long
experience. He made over 400 trips, rafting and operating his own
sternwheelers on the Upper Cumberland. Young Lue was just a boy when
he began his river learning. He made his first trip downriver as a
raftsman in the early 1900s. Sometime around 1913, he went to
steamboating. He steered on the Jo Horton Falls, handled all kinds
of workboats and towboats. He piloted his fathers sternwheelers, the
Quick Step, the J.J. Gore, and the L.T. Plumlee, hauling freight and
livestock regularly up the river from Carthage to Burkesville,
Kentucky and up to the Obey from Celina. Since the 1950s Captain Lue
has piloted such steamboats as the Avalon and the Belle of
Louisville, excursion boats, and he brought the famous Delta Queen up
the Cumberland on her last trip to Nashville. --Exerpts from The
