Filipow Parish History

The town of Filipow was established in 1562 by King Sigmunt August and a wooden church was built.  The church parish was created in 1571.  A new church, also wood, was erected in 1718.  The present structure, made of stone and brick, was erected in 1841 and enlarged in 1884.  The interior was remodeled in 1978.  The church marriage record years covered by this site include many towns and villages within Filipow parish, with some no longer existing.

Note: Since this present structure was built in 1841, many of your direct ancestors were baptized in it, attended services in it, and were possibly married inside it.  Below are 2 photos looking back into history as seen by your ancestors over 160 years ago.
