The Zlotorzynski Line

General History

     When I first delved into genealogy, I knew very little about the surname Zlotorzynski.  Since I put up this website, things have certainly changed.  If you want to find other cousin lines and genealogists researching the same surname, you need to create a genealogy webpage!  You do not need to look for them.  They will find you!  Since the creation of this website, I had three separate cousin lines find me.  One even had completed extensive notes to build my Zlotorzynski line in Filipow, Poland.  Before he just sent me e-mail one day after visiting this site, I had never heard of Filipow.  Now dropped in my lap was the family tree there.  The cousin connection factor is a powerful element in genealogy.  As I am helping other cousin lines get caught up with me, there are others farther ahead than myself that are helping me along other lines.  Pooling research helps everyone.  Be generous and share.  It will someday come back to you tenfold.

Current Research Projects

     With notes given me by a sideline cousin, I am currently shifting through LDS microfilm for my Zlotorzynski line in Filipow.  I am slowly but surely learning Polish translation.  I am acquiring hard documents to verify the family tree, and even finding some individuals looked over.  One thing about church documents is their wording.  They tend to repeat the same entry over and over.  All you have to do is substitute the various names.  So learning the commonly used words in such documents is all you really need to know for translation.  You do not have to speak the language.  One unusual development recently is finding what would be a 7th cousin living in Filipow.  He has been into his genealogy for about 1 1/2 years.  This shows how the computer has changed basic genealogy research.  Together we are going through Filipow records.  I get the LDS microfilm for my family research and also find his families.  He gladly does quick translation for me.  He does not speak English, and I do not speak Polish.  We send e-mail to each other using online translation.  Why am I gathering his documents when Filipow is only 10 miles away?  Because to make a photocopy in Poland is 15 Zloties, or $5 American.  With my memory stick, I can get a LDS library copy for 15 cents.  You do the math.  My 7th cousin gets free documents and I get free Polish and Russian translation.  Put up a website, have cousins find you, be generous with your work, pool your efforts, and become a successful genealogist.
