I have broken down our family history into the four principal branches of my parents and my wife Heather's parents.  Each of these branches is available in print form in four separate books. To purchase a copy of any of these books please contact the author for current pricing.

The four principal branches are:

THE BROWNS

This branch covers the ancestors and descendants of John Stewart Brown and Harriet Ellen Jones. This is my father Ken Brown's family.

The Brown paternal lineage were small-town merchants from Armagh, Ulster, Ireland where their ancestry can be traced back to the mid-1700s. However present research indicates that this family was probably originally from Scotland.  The Stewart maternal lineage of the Brown family were pioneer farmers in Wellington County, Ontario from the early 1800s. This family originally comes from the Highlands of Perthshire, Scotland where our ancestry can be traced with certainty to King Robert Stewart II of Scotland and through his grandfather, King Robert the Bruce, to the 1200s. This line can also be traced with certainty on some branches as far back as the Early Middle Ages, and with some legendary ancestors as early as 500 BC!

The Jones paternal lineage were industrial working-class folks from Flintshire, Wales where our ancestry can be traced back to the late 1700s. The Liptrot maternal lineage of the Jones family were an industrial working-class family from Lancashire, England where our ancestry can be traced back to the early 1800s.

THE ANGUSES

This branch covers the ancestors and descendants of John Angus and Jessie Brown Duncan. This is my mother Jackie (Angus) Brown's family.

The Angus paternal lineage were industrial working-class folks from Lancashire, England where our ancestry can be traced back to the mid-1800s. The Dobson maternal lineage of the Anguses comes from Lancashire, England where our ancestry can be traced back to the mid-1800s.

The Duncan paternal lineage was a working class family from Lanarkshire, Scotland where our ancestry can be traced back to the mid-1800s. The Hunter maternal lineage of the Duncan family were a very poor working class family from Lanarkshire, Scotland and Ireland where our ancestry can be traced back to the late 1700s.

THE SHARPES

This branch covers the ancestors and descendants of Alexander Donald Sharpe and Linda Winifred Isobel Tasker. This is my father-in-law David Sharpe's family.

The Sharpe paternal lineage were business owners and pioneer farmers in Kent County, Ontario from the mid-1800s. Originally they came from Derbyshire, England with branches from Ireland and Germany where their ancestry can be traced back to the early 1700s. The Cuthbert maternal lineage of the Sharpe family were pioneer farmers in Kent County, Ontario from the late 1700s. Originally they descended from hearty farming stock from the Highlands of Inverness-shire, Scotland and Lancashire, England where their ancestry can be traced back to the mid-1600s.

The Tasker paternal lineage comes from Yorkshire, England where their ancestry can be traced back to the early 1800s. The Bell maternal lineage of the Taskers were rural farmers from Northumberland and Durham, England where their ancestry can be traced back to the early 1600s.

THE RICHARDSONS

This branch covers the ancestors and descendants of Dr. Lloyd Thomas Richardson, PhD, and Winnifred Pauline Thornton. This is my mother-in-law Brenda (Richardson) Sharpe's family.

The Richardson paternal lineage were a well-educated family from Yorkshire, England where their ancestry can be traced back to the early 1700s. Many of them were teachers and they hold the record for the most university degrees of any of our family branches. The Bridgman maternal lineage of the Richardsons were pioneer farmers in what is now New York State. Originally they came from Devonshire, England where their ancestry can be traced back to the mid-1700s. One of their ancestral branches is descended from United Empire Loyalists who were in North America from the early 1600s. Prior to that they have a mixed ancestry primarily from Holland, but also Norway, France, and Germany, including one ancestor who sailed with Samuel de Champlain. Members of family are also cousins to Hollywood actors Henry, Peter, Jane, and Bridget Fonda.

The Thornton paternal lineage comes from Surrey, England where their ancestry can be traced back to the mid-1700s. The Furler maternal lineage of the Thorntons were pioneer farmers in the Niagara, Ontario area from at least the early 1800s. They were of Dutch/German background, but their early history is unknown.
