Frank Saari went to the Mohawk, Michigan area in the late 1890's and according to records was a miner and was employed at a copper mine. According to family, after the death of Frank's wife, he returned to his home land at Kattilasaari, Sweden. In Sweden he purchased some land, which he disposed of around 1902 and returned to the United States. In 1902 upon returning to Michigan he went back to work in the copper mines. He applied for citizenship in 1904 and March of 1907, he married Johanna Katrina Runola. They had ten children and lived near Kimball, MN, in Meeker County on the Tyna farm. Frank died there in 1938 and his wife died in 1958. [Ref: Bill Saari's family information, and his son's booklet of the Saari-Ferrell History]

In 1910 Frank Saari was living in Kingman Co., Michigan. He had two children at the time. That record reads: 1910 Federal Population Schedules, US Census listed in house # 5 and family # 5 as head of house hold Frank Saari in Kingman County, Michigan, age 31, born in Finland and listed both of his parents as born in Finland and he spoke Finish. He was listed as a Miner. His wife was listed as Hanna, age 24, and she has had 4 children and 3 are living. Children listed are Helen, daughter, age 2 born in Michigan; Minnia, daughter, age 1 born in Michigan; and Roy, son, age 7 mos old, born in Michigan.

In 1913 on a farm's atlas Frank Sarri [sic], with wife Hannah, and daughter Minnie and, son, Oscar on Section 10 of Meeker County. He had lived there for one year and was in Kingston Township and had a Kimball address. Also listed in the same county was his brother, William Saari, with wife Hilda and their children Walter, Wilbert, and Verner. He was on Section 9 and they had been in the county for 15 years. She came to the US in 1877 and was naturalized in 1933. Children were given as Minnie, daughter, age 15, born in Michigan and she spoke Finish; Oscar, son, age 7, born in Michigan and he was speaking Finish; Charlie, age 3 mos old, born in MN; and William age 3 mos old born in MN. The census was taken Jan of 1920. [Research Note: Carl may be incorrectly listed and given as Charlie 3 mos old.]

He was age 52, and married at age 30, born in Sweden, a farmer, who listed both of his parents as born in Sweden. He spoke Finish and his wife was Hana, age 43, and she married at age 21 and was born in Sweden but spoke Finish. She listed both of her parents as born in Sweden. Their children were listed as Carl H., son, age 15, born in MN; William A., son, age 11, born in MN; Mildred E., age 6, born in Minnesota; Gunnar E., age 5, born in MN; Richard E., age 5, born in MN; Ruth H., age 2, born in MN; and Gustal A., 1 year and age 2 mos old, born in MN.
