Maria was said to have spoken both German and Hungarian.85 However Maria could not speak English as late as 1930. 9Maria first came to the US in 1901 possibly to Hoboken NJ where it seems her daughter Marget reunited with her in 1903. In about 1906, Maria apparently then returned to Varpalota, Hungary for about three years where she gave birth to her last child Istvan and then returned to Buffalo, NY with the rest of her children, her sister and niece on the Carpathia from Varpalota, Hungary VIA Fiume, Croatia arriving in NY Dec. 2, 1909. Two years later The Carpathia rescued 705 survivors from the sinking Titanic.89 |

Mrs. Marie TOKOTCH, 78, died in the home of her son, Stephen Jr., on the Brown Schoolhouse Road, early Friday night, May 17, 1946. She leaves her husband, Stephen of Holley Road; two sons, Stephen Jr. of Holley and Anthony of Kent; one daughter, Margaret ODRE of Barre Center; one sister, Miss Rose KENDALL of Buffalo, several grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Monday morning at the Merrill Funeral Home and at St. Mary�s Church. Burial was in Holy Cross Cemetery, Holley. 90 |
