There were two immigrants, Christopher and Daniel STETTLER who arrived about 20 years apart.

 

Main source HISTORY OF LEHIGH COUNTY, PENNSYLVANIA  VOL. III 1914 page 1287 This book gives the origin of both men as Alsace.

 

County development: Lehigh formed 1812 < from Northampton formed 1752 < from Bucks

Christopher settled in what was then Bucks County.

Stettler names in 1790 census were in Northampton County.

 

Christopher Stettler of Macungie Township

“Christopher Stedler” arrived in Philadelphia 1732 aboard “Pennsylvania Merchant”.

Land Warrants 100 acres Sept. 9, 1736 and 100 acres March 24, 1742 in Bucks County and:

BUCKS COUNTY

OBLE, Christopher 3 Jan 1748 for 50 acres beginning at Mathias RIFFLE in Macuungie.
Int. and Quit Rent due from 1 Mar 1745.
STITLER, Christopher 3 Jan 1748 for 25 acres adjoining Christopher OBLES land at Maccungie twp.

 

He wife was Catharina Margaretha (her last name is given as Moser or Musser on WorldConnect, but no source is given)

Children: six daughters

1.       Eva born 25 December 1740 married Lorentz Klein.

2.        Margaretha born 9 December 1741christened 27 Dec. 1741sponsors Johannes Lichtenwall and Margaretha; married Peter Kline/Klein

3.       Barbara born 17 July 1743 christened 24 July 1743 sponsors Tobias Moser and Barbara Lichtenwaller; married George Steininger

4.       Maria Catharina born 15 Nov. 1744 christened 10 Dec. 1744 sponsors Nicklaus Meyer and Maria Catharina; married John Lichtenwaller

5.       Apolonia born 19 June 1748 christened 3 July 1748 sponsors Henrich Christ and Apolonia Christin.

6.       Anna Maria born 22 Aug 1750 christened 9 Sept 1750 sponsors Adam Klein and Maria Christina.

Christenings were at the Jordan Lutheran of Evangelical Lutheran Church, Whitehall Twp. Lehigh County (then Bucks County), Pennsylvania.

 

Christopher and his wife were associated with Abraham Knerr serving as sponsors to Abraham’s first two children.

1.       Christopher Knerr born 8 Oct. 1742 christened 28 Oct. 1742 sponsors Joh. Christoph Ebel (Obel) and Catharina Margaretha Stettler.

2.       Catharina Barbara Knerr born 20 Aug 1744 christened 16 Sept 1744; sponsors Christoph Stettler and wife Catharina and Barbara Obel.

 

Daniel Stettler of Weisenberg Township occupation weaver, wife Catherine

He may have been the Daniel Stattler who arrived in Philadelphia 1752 on the ship “Neptune”

Appears in 1772 tax list Weisenberg Township, Lehigh County as Daniel Stedler

Maria Eva married Peter Hantwerk (or Handwerk)

Daniel’s will was sent to me by Lance Ware a descendant of Daniel’s.  Thank you Lance.

Note: will mentions land in Shamokin, which I believe was then in Northumberland County.
