CULLOMPTON.
PETTY SESSIONS, Monday. - Before J. C. New, Esq. (In the chair), and T. TURNER, Esq. - Robert BOURNE, a labourer, was summoned by Henry GOVIER, a farmer, of Bradninch, for leaving his service without proper notice, whereby he claimed 4s 6d. as damages. - Complainant said defendant had been in his employ for some time past as a weekly servant. He left on the 13th September, which was in the middle of the week. He (complainant) had previously given defendant notice to leave, which notice would have expired on the Saturday week following the 13th. - The Bench made an order for a payment of the money, with costs. - Thomas REDWOOD, Ann REDWOOD, Thomas SALTER, James WALKLEY, and Ann WALKLEY, all of Culmstock, were charged with being drunk and disorderly, at that place on the 22nd ultimo. - Four defendants pleaded guilty, and were fined 9s. each, including costs, but SALTER, not appearing, was fined 10s. 6d., including costs. - Arthur THOMAS, painter, was charged with being drunk, at Culmstock, on the 20th Sept. - Defendant was fined 9s., to include costs. - Henry ROOKLEY and William ROOKLEY (brothers), were charged with trespassing in pursult of game on lands belonging to the Rev. T. DENNIS, at Kentisbeare, on Sunday, the 23rd September. - The case was proved by Mr. Robert CLARKE, a farmer. - Henry was fined 20s. including costs, and William ROOKLEY was fined 40s. and costs, or in default of payment, one month hard labour. William went to goal. - John DAVIS, of Clayhidon, was summoned by Mr. Wm. IRISH, for assaulting him on the 26th ultimo, but the case was dismissed. - Simeon DAVIS (son of the previous defendant) was charged with assaulting Henry IRISH on the 25th Sept., at Clayhidon. - Complainant said on the day named he met the defendant at a public-house, when defendant commenced abusing him, and ultimately struck him several times. The Bench fined the defendant £1 including costs.
