NORTH TAWTON.

The freehold properties, “Brocks House,” which was previously offered by auction, has now been disposed of by private treaty by Messrs. Chas. HARRIS and Co., auctioneers, Credition, and the vendor's solicitors, Messrs. W. H. STONE and Co., Exeter.

The funeral has taken place of Mrs. Sarah AVERY, of Fore-street, North Tawton. Mrs. AVERY had been ill for some time, and she passed away peacefully on October 25th in her 84th year. The mourners were Mr. and Mrs. W. JONES, junr., daughter and son-in-law; Edith and Alfred JONES, grand-children; Mr. W. RUCKLEY, nephew; Mr. and Mrs. G. AVERY, nephew and niece; Mr. and Mrs. W. JONES senr., Mrs. A. JONES. Others present were the Misses E. and M. UNDERHILL, Mrs. R. EVANS, Mrs. BARKWELL, Mrs. J. COLES, Mrs. GERRY, Mrs. NICHOLS, Miss A. VANSTONE, Mrs. F. SANDERS, Mrs. HOCKEY, Mrs. DENSHAM, Mrs. A. W. DAVEY, Mrs. H. DAY, Miss E. DAY, Mrs. A. W. MARTIN, Mrs. CORNELIUS, Mrs. E. BREALY, Mrs. E. ARSCOTT, Mrs. R. KNAPMAN, Miss J. PINCH, Mrs. R. FORD, Mrs. DELVE. The bearers were Messrs. J. BROWING, P. KNAPMAN, R. EVANS, F. SKINNER, R. ANSTEY, F. UNDERHILL. Among the floral tributes sent was one from the neighbours.

The death took place on October 24th of Mr. John Henry BIRD, at Peach Park, North Tawton. Mr. BIRD was 59. He had been ill for some time, and had been a patient at the Royal D. and E. Hospital. The funeral took place at North Tawton. The mourners were Mrs. BIRD, widow; Ivy and Gladys, daughters; William, Percy, George, Thomas and Frank, sons; Mr. and Mrs. W. BIRD (Coldridge), brother and sister-in-law; Mr. and Mrs. Fred BIRD (Chulmleigh), brother and sister-in-law; Mr. and Mrs. E. HAYMAN, sister and brother-in-law; Mrs. GIFFORD (Hartland), sister-in-law; Mr. W. GIFFORD and Miss M. GIFFORD, nephew and niece; Mrs, SANDERS (Hartland), niece, Mr. and Mrs. J. HARRIES (Wembworthy), sister and brother-in-law; Mr. Walter BIRD, Mr. Reg. BIRD, Miss Winnie BIRD (Coldridge), nephews and nieces; Mrs. TONKINS (Zeal Monachorum), niece.

The North Tawton branch of the British Legion, with the help of the Women's Section, held a successful jumble sale and dance in the Market Hall, North Tawton, in aid of the children's Christmas funds.
