CULLOMPTON.

LIQUIDATION. - A first meeting of the creditors of H. J. BLACKMORE, dairyman, of this town, was held at the offices of Mr. T. ANDREW, accountant, of Exeter, yesterday. The debtor's statement shewed <sic> that he owed to unsecured creditors, £380 16s. 6d.; and for rent, rates, &c., £7 2s. 10d. The assets amounted to £20, and consisted of book-debts, estimated to produce £5, and furniture, fixtures, &c., £15. Liquidation by arrangement was agreed to, with Mr. T. ANDREW as trustee, and he was also entrusted with the registration of the resolution.

PETTY SESSIONS, Monday. - Before T. TURNER, Esq. (in the chair), Colonel DREWE, R. H. CLARKE, G. M. MARKER, and H. WALROND, Esqrs. - Henry WOODLAND and Eli HILL, of Bampton, were brought up in custody charged with stealing two bundles of straw, value 1s., the property of Messrs. FOGG and Co., railway contractors, on Friday the 8th inst. - Mr. PAYNE appeared for the prosecution. - Mr. GREEN said the contractors had lately lost a large quantity of plant, &c., from their works. Five watchmen were employed on the line, but the robberies still went on, and therefore Messrs. FOGG and Co. were determined to prosecute in every case. - Prisoners were fined 20s. each including costs, or fourteen days' imprisoment <sic> with hard labour. - Alexander STRADLING, of Holcombe Rogus, who did not appear, was summoned for being drunk at Red Ball, on Sunday, 26th ult. - Being an old offender, defendant was fined 20s., or fourteen days' imprisonment. - Thomas Henry PURCHAGE, general dealer, of Cullompton, was summoned for having in his possession some weights which were under the standard, and also a bean and scales, which were untrue – Fined the costs, 11s. 6d.; the weights to be rectified and restored to the owner. - George APLIN, Samuel CLODE, and James TWOSE, of Uffculme, were summoned for trespassing in the pursuit of game on land in the occupation of Mr. John GUSH, on the 2nd instant. - CLODE did not appear, and the other defendants pleaded guilty. - APLIN and TWOSE were fined 15s. each, and the other defendant 20s. including costs. - Thomas HOLLAND, an umbrella mender, who did not appear, for being drunk in the highway at Clayhidon on the 28th of September, was fined the costs, 12s. - James HELLINGS, Samuel TWOSE, and Sidney TWOSE, farm labourers, of Holcombe Rogus, were summoned for being drunk on the highway at Holcombe Rogus. - Defendants pleaded not guilty. - Fined 5s. 6d. each, including costs. - James ROOKLEY, a labourer, was summoned for stealing a rabbit-trap, the property of Col. E. S. DREWE. - Defendant stated that he found the trap, which was marked “E.S.D.,” but being no scholar, did not know whose it was. - He was discharged, Colonel DREWE not pressing the case.
