CULLOMPTON.

Henry ROOKLEY and William ROOKLEY (brothers), labourers, Kentisbeer, were charged with on the 23rd September last being on lands belonging to the Rev. Mr. DENNIS, Blackborough, Kentisbeer, in search of game. - Robert CLARKE, farmer, Kentisbeer, deposed to seeing defendants in Blackborough Plantation, belonging to Mr. DENNIS, about 7 a.m. on the day in question. When defendants saw him they ran away, and Henry ROOKLEY dropped his hat, out of which fell the net now produced. - Defendant Henry ROOKLEY pleaded guilty to the charge, but William ROOKLEY produced John DUMMETT (his sister's husband), who swore he and defendant, William ROOLEY, were at Hemyock at the time the offence was said to be committed. Witness admitted having been before a Bench of Magistrates some time since and convicted of theft. Their Worships considered the case proved against Wm. ROOKLEY and inflicted a fine of £2 10s 6d, including costs, or in default of payment two months' imprfsonment <sic> with hard labour. Defendant Hy. ROOKLEY, who pleaded guilty, was fined £1 inclusive.
