KENTISBEER. - An inquest was held on Thursday, the 28th, by R. H. ABERDEIN, Esq., on the body of Moses ROOKLEY, a labourer in the Scythe Stone Pits, who was killed by the roof of a pit falling in on him the previous day. Deceased's son and daughter were with him, but nearer the mouth of the pit. The boy quickly extricated himself, and succeeded in rescuing his sister, and went for further assistance to endeavour to save his father, who was after an hour's search found quite dead. The daughter could hear her father speak in a faint tone, whilst the boy was seeking assistance. The Jury returned a verdict of “Accidental Death.” Great credit is due to the men who exerted themselves in extricating the deceased and our contemporary, the Luminary, suggests that a subscription be opened for them; and contributions may be sent to Mr. ABERDEIN; or the clergyman, the Rev. W. C. THOMPSON. We hope that this suggestion will be followed up, as from the nature of the ground accidents are not at all rare in that district; and those who make sacrifices to rescue their fellow-creatures, should be rewarded. We shall be happy to receive subscriptions.
