Passing of a Halberton Old-Age Pensioner

The death took place at Crosslands, Halberton, on Friday, of Mr. John ROOKLEY, at the advanced age of 77 years. Mr. and Mrs. ROOKLEY had resided in the parish of Halberton all their life. Deceased had worked at Halberton Court for 20 years, and afterwards residing at Crosslands for 20 years. He had been in ill-health for six years, and had been a great sufferer. He leaves a widow, a son, Pte. John ROOKLEY Royal West Kents, and five daughters. The funeral took place at Halberton Churchyard on Wednesday, the officiating clergyman being Rev. Wade SMITH. The mourners were Mrs. J. ROOKLEY (widow), Mrs. E. WHITING (daughter), Bampton, Mrs. R. HILES (daughter), and Mrs. Wm. MEMBERY (daughter) London, Mrs. F. SAYER “Ealing,” (daughter), Mrs. J. HOYLE (Ashtead), Mrs. BIDGOOD and Miss ROOKLEY, Crosslands, Halberton (sisters), Mr. and Mrs. BOWERMAN (brother and sister-in-law), Silverton, Mr. E. WHITING (son-in-law), Bampton, Mr. W. CHAMBERLAIN (nephew), Warmcombe, Dorothy ROOKLEY, Edith SAYERS, and Freddie (Ealing), Nora MEMBERY (London) and Jacke HOYLE (Astead), grandchildren. The bearers were Messrs J. and Thos. WILLIAMS, jun (Ash Thomas), J. SCORSE (Ash Thomas), and Mr. J. SMITH (Crosspark, Halberton). Wreaths were sent from his loving wife, his loving daughters, his grandchildren, Freddie, Jack, Nora and Edie, Miss EVERETT,
