TIVERTON DROWNING CASE

Accidental death” was the verdict returned at an inquest at Tiverton, Wednesday on the body of Sylvia Alice GLIDDON, aged three years, daughter of Police Constable and Mrs. GLIDDON, of Council Gardens, Tiverton, who was found drowned in the river Lowman on Monday. In the course of the evidence it was stated that deceased was usually taken to and from school, but on Monday afternoon was allowed to return in company with her young brother. The gate to the Recreation Ground, leading into a field, was open, and the children went through to the river band. Deceased fell into three feet of water and was drowned. - The Coroner (Mr. CLUTSUM) said he would make representations to the Town Council to have the gate permanently closed as it now served no useful purpose.
