CLYST HYDON.


The death has taken place at Church Cottage, Clyst Hydon, of Mrs. Elizabeth Ann HAWKINS, widow of Mr. Albert HAWKINS, formerly of Pratt's Cottage, Clyst Hydon, and eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. GLANVILLE, of Church Cottage, Clyst Hydon. Deceased's husband passed away about three months ago. Six young children are left without parents, the eldest of whom is about 15, and the youngest just over one year. The funeral of Mrs. HAWKINS took place in the Parish Churchyard last week, and was attended by many relatives and friends. The service was impressively conducted by the Rector (Rev. C. SHERWIN), who also read the committal sentences at the graveside. The principal mourners were Albert and William HAWKINS (sons), Mr. and Mrs. C. GLANVILLE (father and mother), Mr. Cecil GLANVILLE and Mrs. A. LANE (brother and sister), Mr. Peter GLANVILLE and Miss Lily GLANVILLE (brother and sister), Mrs. A. GOFF and Mrs. BOWERMAN (sister and aunt), Mr. and Mrs. HAWKINS, Bradninch (father-in-law and mother-in-law). Mr. and Mrs. S. HAWKINS, Bradninch (brother-in-law and sister-in-law), Mrs. AYRES and Mrs. CLARKE (aunts). Miss J. CLARKE and Miss I. BOWERMAN (cousins), Mrs. LANE (friend). Among the general sympathisers were Mrs. J. D. MARTIN (Clyst St. Lawrence), Miss HARRIS, Mrs. BISHOP, Mrs. HOWARD, Mrs. T. HILL, Miss M. HILL, Mrs. H. GLANVILLE, Mrs. BOARD, Mrs. BUTT, Miss N. BLACKMORE, Mrs. HELLIER, Mrs. Wm. and Mrs. Walter WEBBER. The coffin was of polished elm, the breast-plate bearing the inscription: “Elizabeth Ann Hawkins, died 1st June, 1935, aged 33 years.” The bearers were Messrs. F. GOFF, junr., V. LANE, H. MITCHELL and C. COLES. The grave was beautifully lined with flowers and evergreens by the relatives of the deceased. The beautiful floral tributes numbered 26. A memorial service was held in the Parish Church on Sunday evening, when feeling references were made by the Rector. Deceased's favourite hymn, “Brief life is here our portion, was sung. There was a large congregation.
