CULLOMPTON.
PETTY SESSIONS, MONDAY. - Before M. F. TURNER, Esq., (chairman), Lieut.-Colonel DREWE, G. M. MARKER, and C. R. COLLINS, Esqs. - William ROOKLEY. labourer, pleaded guilty to trespassing in pursuit of game on the 25th December last, on land belonging to Mr. E. S. DREWE, of the Grange. He is an old offender and was fined £2 including costs. Colonel DREWE retired from the Bench during the hearing of this case. - Robert ELLIS, sexton of Butterleigh Church, pleaded guilty to stealing a quantity of turnips, valued at 6d., the property of Mr. HAWKINS, of Butterleigh, on the 24th December, and was fined 20s., including costs. Charles BLACKMORE, of Clayhydon, was charged with, on the 13th December, firing off a gun within fifty feet of the highway, at Churchstanton; also with trespassing in pursuit of game at the same time and place. Both offences being proved, defendant was fined 20s, including costs, in each case. - Frank FORCE, labourer, of Cullompton, was fined 10s, including costs, for being drunk on the 1st of January, at that place. - Isaac COLES, carpenter, of Willand, for a similar offence on the 30th December, was ordered to pay costs. William HAWKINS, farmer, of Ford, Kentisbeare, who did not appear, was fined £2 and costs for a like offence, on the 28th December. - John LANE, of Burlescombe, was summoned for allowing a cow to stray at that place, on the 26th December. Mr. Superintendent COLLING not wishing to press the case, the defendant was dismissed on payment of the costs.
