LORD MAYOR TO ATTEND GREYHOUND MEETING

Effort in Aid of Air Raid Distress Fund

Remarkable instances of the generosity of Bristol folk have been experienced by the team of collectors in charge of the Eastville grayhounds [sic] which have been on War Service at the Centre this week. Perhaps the most appealing of all has been the contribution which was handed in anonymously, consisting of the sum of 2s 4½d in small coins with a note which read “From a poor invalid.” A further example has been provided in the contribution of 285 farthings which have been collected by an employe [sic] of a nearby hotel.

Others have also been helping in various ways. Transport for the greyhounds to and from Eastville and the Centre has generously been provided free of charge by Mr E. A. OATEN, of the Gordon Garage, Clifton.

Up to 4.0 p.m. yesterday the Greyhounds had collected £14 3s 8d during the day, making a total of £45 8s 7d since Monday.

A special greyhound race meeting is being held at Eastville Stadium to-day at 3.0 p.m., in aid of the Lord Mayor's Fund for air raid distress.

The Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress of Bristol will be in attendance and the special attractions include a display by a services band.
