FOURACRES AND ONE ACRE.

A case of particular interest to “allotters” was heard at Wiveliscombe petty sessions, Tuesday, George FOURACRE, timber dealer, of Milverton, the occupier of an allotment at Allercroft, was summoned for failing to comply with a notice to cultivate the land. Mr. C. P. CLARKE prosecuted on behalf of the Somerset War Agricultural Committee. Evidence as to the state of the allotment was given by Louis Edward SNELGROVE, of the War Agricultural Committee, and by Mr. John RISDON, auctioneer and valuer, of Wiveliscombe. The former stated that the Parish Council twice reported defendant's neglect to clean and crop his land, also that the allotment was now entirely covered with weeds. Mr. RISDON said the allotment was in a filthy condition. About one acre had been cropped with barley, but the couch had spoilt the barley, of which there was very little. Some potatoes and mangolds had been planted, but both were absolutely spoilt. Defendant said that he had been too busy with other work to properly attend to the allotment. The Bench fined defendant £10, including costs.
