TAUNTON POSTMAN'S DEATH
FUNERAL OF MR. E. A. OATEN.
Much regret has been occasioned by the death on Monday of Mr. Ernest Albert OATEN, of 55, Albemarle-road, Taunton, which took place after a long and painful illness at the National Canatorium, Benenden?, Kent, Mr. OATEN, wha <sic> was 50 years of age, had been a postman in Taunton all his life, except during the war period, when he served with the 5th Somerset Regiment in India. He leaves a widow and young son.
The funeral took place on Thurday afternoon. A service, at which a number of friends were present, was conducted at Albermarle Baptist Church by the Rev. J. E? DAVIS, who also read the committal sentences at St. Mary's Cemetery.
The family mourners were Mrs. E. A. OATEN (widow), Messrs. H. T., S. A., E. C., and H. OATEN (brothers), Mesdames F. H. SAFFIN, C. WELFARE, and F. TAYLOR (sisters), Messrs. F. H. SAFFIN and C. WELFARE (brothers-in-law), Messrs. W. and C. ASH (brothers-in-law), Mesdames H. T., E. C., and H. OATEN (sisters-in-law), Mrs. E. HAWKINS (aunt) and Mrs. F. BRADFORD (cousin).
Among others present were Mr. and Mrs. G. TOWSEND, Mr. T. PHILLIPS, Mr. J. WELFARE?, Mrs. F. HAYMAN, Mr. T. S. PENNY, Mrs. CHAFFE, and Mrs. THORNE (representing the Co-operative Women's Guild), Mr. R. WINTER and Mr. W. DRISCOLL (old Colleagues of Mr. OATEN), and Mr. W. BULL (late inspector).
The coffin was borne by postmen from the Taunton Post-office. They were Messrs. T. E. SHATTOCK, E. RAYLAND, L. CARPENTER, and G. LEE.
Others present from the Post-office were E? FISHER (assistant inspector), C. TEMPLEMAN (head postman), F. MAY (secretary, Postmen's Union), R. CHALK, A. FOOKS, T. JENKINS, F. SEALEY, and W. WILKINS.
Among the many floral tributes was one from the Postmaster and staff of the GPO, Taunton.
