FIVEHEAD
DEATH AND FUNERAL OF MR. C. G. T. MILTON
It is with deep regret the people of the village heard of the death of Mr. Cecil George Thomas MILTON, eldest son of Mr. and the late Mrs. G. T. MILTON, of Smith's Farm, Sedgmoor, Fivehead, who passed away at the Taunton Hospital at the early age of 39. Mr. MILTON was much respected by a large circle of friends.
The funeral was at Fivehead on Monday, the first part of the service being at St. Martin's Church, conducted by the Rev. - FRY, of Corfe, vicar designate for the parish. The hymn sung was “Abide with Me,” Miss H. HILLARD being at the organ, and played “The Dead March” as the cortege was borne from the church. The interment was at the Cemetery in a flower-lined grave by the side of his mother. The mourners were: Mr. Edgar MILTON, Mrs. Elsie DAVIDSON, Miss B. MILTON, Mrs. Kate HURR, Miss D. MILTON, and Mrs. Hilda MILLER (brother and sisters), Mr. Sid MILLER (brother-in-law), Miss SLACK (fiancee), Mrs. SCOTT and Miss LOUCH (aunts). The bearers were: Messrs. Herbert CHEDZOY, A. MOUNTER, W. DOBLE, J. LANE, Francis MILLER, and A. TROUT. Other friends at the church and Cemetery included:- Mr. A. W. Key MATTERSON, Mrs. Cuthbert MATTERSON, Mr. and Mrs. D. DINHAM, Mrs. E. There were over 50 floral tributes from relatives and friends.

A TELEPHONE KIOSK has been erected near the Sub-Post-office, and a continuous day and night telephone service is provided.

ST. MARY'S CHURCH WEDDING
LONG SUTTON BRIDEGROOM
St. Mary's Church was the scene of the wedding on Saturday of Mr. Frederick C. HUNT, youngest son of Mr. Marwood and the late Mrs. HUNT, of the Water-works, Long Sutton, and Miss Eugenie LONG, only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. E. A. LONG, of Garden City, Langport. The ceremony was preformed by the Rev. T. O. A. SELLICK, in the presence of a large congregation.
Given away by her father, the bride wore a gold satin gown, which gold shoes to match, coronet and veil. She carried a bouquet of carnations. She was attended by Miss Ida STACEY (friend) and Miss Nora BAKER (cousin) as bridesmaids. They wore apple green crepe de chine dresses, with head dresses of flowers, and carried posies of yellow tulips, and red carnations. The “best man” was Mr. J. HUNT (brother of the bridegroom).
About 40 guests attended the reception, which was held afterwards at the home of he bride's parents. Later in the day Mr. and Mrs. HUNT left for their future home at Bower Hinton.
They received between 70 and 80 useful presents, including a cheque to the bridegroom from his fellow employees and the firm of Messrs. Yeo Bros., PAULL & Co., Martock, and the bride received a table from Mrs. HAIG, of Yeovil, by whom she had been employed.
The wedding cake was made by the bride's mother.
CURRY RIVEL
A TELEPHONE KIOSK has been erected near the Sub-Post-office, and a continuous day and night service is provided.
A DANCE was held in the Sewers Hall on Wednesday a large number being present. The proceeds were in aid of the Sunday School Funds. The Vicar (the Rev. J. H. T. MAUDE-ROXBY) was M.C. Music was supplied by the Rhythm Boys Dance Band. Mr. S. LUMBARD was door-keeper. Refreshments were served by Mrs. PITMAN and helpers.
MOTHERS' UNION. - In connection with the Curry Rivel and Drayton branches of the Mothers' Union, Communion services were held at both of the parish churches on Friday (Lady-day). The service at Curry Church was conducted by the Rev. W. JONES; and at Drayton by the Vicar (the Rev. R. J. HAWKINS). - A combined service was held at Drayton Parish Church in the afternoon, when a sermon was preached by the Rev. W. JONES, of Curry Rivel. - The Vicar (the Rev. R. J. HAWKINS) conducted the service.
PARISH COUNCIL, Tuesday. - Present: Messrs. R.E. CALDER (chairman), E. PARSONS, W. PROLES, A. O. MOUNTER, and F. W. SMITH, with the Clerk (Mr. W. THURLOW). - Mr. P. H. KNOWLES sent a letter of resignation from the Council. - The Clerk was instructed to write and ask Mr. KNOWLES to reconsider his decision. – The Clerk presented the annual Parish Accounts, showing receipts £176 9s, and expenditure, £124 4s 5d; leaving a balance in hand of £51 16s 4d. – The annual Parish Meeting followed, but on the Councillors were present. – The Clerk presented the audited accounts for 1937, and also the Bread Charity Account.
A WHIST DRIVE AND DANCE, organised by the local Liberal Association, took place in the Sewers Hall on Friday. Mr. G. HARTLAND was M.C. The prize-winners were:- Ladies – 1, Miss M. DANIEL; 2, Mrs. H. T. HALL; 3, Mrs. GRIFFITHS. Gent.'s – 1, Mrs BOOBYER (playing as gent.); 2, Mr. F. BOWN; 3, Mr. C. KEIRLE. The prizes were distributed by M s. B. JEYES. The company was considerably augmented for the dance which followed. Mr. BATEMAN, the prospective candidate, was present, also the Liberal agent (Mr. W. CARTER). Mr. BATEMAN gave a short address previous to the dance. He also proposed a vote of thanks to all those who had helped to make the evening such a success. Refreshments were served by the Ladies' Committee (Mrs. B. JEYES convenor). Mr. J. BARNARD, sen., and Mr. BOOBYER acted as door stewards. The Rhythm Boys' Band provided music for the dancing.
CHANGE RINGING
On Saturday a peal of Grandsire Triples (5,040 changes) was rung on the bells of the Parish Church in three hours and fifteen minutes. The ringers were: J. HUNT (1), A. J. WYATT (2), W. G. GIGG (3), P. H. LOCK (4), S. DABINETT (5), J. ROY (6) J. T. LOCKE (7), E. STEVENS (8) The peal was conducted by J. HUNT. The ringers 1, 3, and 6 belong to St. James' Taunton, 2 to St. George, Wilton, 4, 5, 7 and 8 to Drayton, and it was their first peal on eight bells.
The peal was to have been rung at Drayton, but owing to illness near the church, the Vicar of Curry Rivel was approached and readily gave permission to use his bells. This was much appreciated. - Thanks are due to Mr. W. PROLES for having everything ready, and the Drayton men for providing tea for the Taunton visitors after the peal.
