A HAMBRIDGE CHARACTER

THE LATE MR. ALFRED WILLEY

SEXTON NEARLY 30 YEARS


Mr. Alfred WILLEY, who died at the Taunton and Somerset Hospital on Friday at the age of 75 years, had been the sexton at Hambridge for near 30 years, having served under five different vicars. A native of Curry Rivel, he had lived at Hambridge, the adjoining village, practically all his life, and was greatly respected in the district. He leaves a widow, four sons and one daughter.

The funeral took place at Hambridge on Tuesday afternoon, when the Vicar (Rev. H. R. WILLIMOTT) officiated. The choral service included the hymns “On the Resurrection Morning” and “Abide with me,” and Psalm 90 was chanted. Miss PORTER was the organist.

The chief mourners were:- Mrs. WILLEY (widow), Mr. and Mrs. E. WILLEY, Mr. and Mrs. H. WILLEY, Mr. and Mrs. Charles WILLEY and Mr. and Mrs. Clifford WILLEY (sons and daughters-in-law), Mr. and Mrs. H. WOODLAND (son-in-law and daughter), Messrs. Roy WOODLAND, John WILLEY and Cecil WILLEY (grandsons), Miss Molly WOODLAND (grand-daughter), Mr. and Mrs. F. MALE and Mr. and Mrs. C. MILLER (brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law), Mrs. KERRISON and Mrs. ALFORD (nieces), Mrs. F. WELCH, Mrs. G. WARFIELD, and Miss F. EDMUNDS, Puckington (friends). The church was practically filled with the many others who attended to pay their last tribute of respect.

MAY, Mrs. HALLETT and Mr John TEMPLEMAN; All at Ferndale; Rev. A. J. HOOK and family; Mr. and Mrs. DALLY and family; Mrs. HUDSON; Mr. and Mrs. E. T. W. MEADE; Mr. and Mrs. RAYNER; Mr. and Mrs. F. The widow and family of the late Mr. WILLEY wish to thank all friends for kind enquiries, messages of sympathy and for the beautiful flowers.
